very few people stop to think what merit actually is...

if merit means "only use the best talent" , then it imply that you must increase the size of the net you are throwing in order to find that talent.

it don't help you throw a small net and say "that is the best talent available" . that is not merit 😅

merit is not what happen to wash up in the area around your feet. right?

especially in a country where old systemic disadvantages still exists. you essentially saying "whatever bubbles to the top is the best".

I am sure you can understand that in S.A. that is not the case 😆

sometimes the best talent is stuck in a place or a situation where he will never be found unless you forced to go looking...

it is cute to think that companies and sports bodies will of their own initiative and the goodness of their heart go and throw this lovely wide net and truly go find the gems that is stuck in the system. no. believe me it don't happen without a external motivation and push.

next time someone tell you they choose on merit , ask them how wide is the net that they are throwing.
