ICCROM mourns the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a powerful voice for peace, compassion, and human connection.
He tirelessly advocated for tolerance, intercultural dialogue, and respect for every identity to preserve and celebrate humanity.
By upholding the protection of heritage in all its forms, he affirmed its capacity to foster resilient communities and underpin long‑term development. He urged a holistic approach to safeguarding our world, in which culture and nature go hand in hand in shaping a stronger tomorrow.
His vision will continue to inspire our work at ICCROM. We extend our deepest condolences to the Catholic Church and to all who draw hope and unity by his legacy.
Today, I had the honor of meeting w/ Amb. Fedrick L. Matwang'a at the Embassy of 🇰🇪. We’re committed to advancing collaborative initiatives to preserve & promote Kenyan heritage while creating meaningful job opportunities for the next generation. Developments are on the horizon!

It’s difficult to imagine the conservation field without him. I got to work with Jukka on his history of ICCROM, and through his eyes and recollections, got to know this wonderful organization for which I work. RIP ❤️
The ICCROM community is devastated at the news of the death of Jukka Jokilehto, one of our most prolific former staff members and a great friend of the organization.
