@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer Q:5 I think we are always planning and wanting things to be perfect before we implement or dive in. Schimmer makes it clear that teachers do not need to wait.“ We can’t wait for the system to be perfect before we begin making important changes to our grading practices.” #msum644
@LightEduFires I have my Reading Recovery students chart their reading strategies/skills, reading level and number of hfw they can read and write in a portfolio. My goal this year was to make students aware of where they are as a learner and from there, we created an end goal. #msum644
@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer Q:3 I believe it is standards-based grading is more work. Schimmer states,“ what is most efficient for teachers is sometimes not most effective for students."Giving a zero on late work is easier; however, it isn’t an accurate measure of academic performance or motivating.#msum644
@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer I used to take that percentage and convert it into a 1-4 score without the use of any scales or rubrics. I think when grading, I have always used the most recent evidence. I wanted students’ grades to be the most reflective and accurate picture of their academic knowledge.
@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer Q1: The hardest part was just rethinking what is meant by our grading scale 1-4. I had to remind myself, as and educator and as a parents, that the end goal is really a 3. The easiest part has been redefining accountability and looking at the most recent evidence. #MSMU644
