@DrKCarlson A4) Now that my strengths and weaknesses are identified, I will research ways to utilize my strengths in my current position and ways to improve my lagging skills. Build on one thing at a time, starting small. #ED634
@DrKCarlson It was interesting to find out, according to the assessment, what my strengths and weaknesses were. I had different ideas. Knowing what they are will help me understand myself better and build on those to be the best leader I can be. #ED634
@DrKCarlson First you need to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Build on them with PD, reaching out to other professionals for advice and guidance, find a wonderful mentor to work with, and be honest. When you don’t know something, reach out for the answer. #ED634
@misshuss11@DrKCarlson Everyone has different strengths, use yours to help those who are lagging in your strength areas and use others’ strengths to build on your lagging skills.
@BigW58@DrKCarlson Yes! Being an authentic person builds trust with others. As a leader your staff needs to trust you and you need to trust your staff. When that doesn’t happen, things go awry.
@DrKCarlson Others look to you for guidance. Use your strengths to guide them, build trust and strong relationships. Everyone has something different to being to the table, bring the best that you have. #ED634
@SkattumSLP Yes! Some students will take longer to grasp a concept than others. I always give my students an example of my own learning where I was behind and then caught up when the time was right for me. Parents definitely need to be part of this process: teamwork.
@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer A5:Assign work for practice, to assess current understanding and prepare for next lesson. SBG=higher expectations, mediocrity is not acceptable, allow students to keep trying as they are not there “yet”. #MSUM644@TomSchimmer#SBG#assessment#edchat
@sarajpetersons@LightEduFires Yet!! Such a powerful word. We have been using this word in our district for several years, and I love it when I hear my students say, "I don't have it yet." They know then it is something they can work on to improve and become successful with the skill.
@DLjhorne@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer Making mistakes is how we learn. When students don't get something right away, they are given an opportunity to relearn it. I know in my adult life, this is also true. As teachers when we make mistakes, we would be out of a job quickly if we weren't given a change to correct it!
@LightEduFires A4:My district currently works w/ proficiency scales & standards. We have worked with the scales for several years and we practiced in the spring with tracking & grading. We are moving to SBG in Math in the fall. #SBGmindset? #MSUM644#edchat#curriculum
@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer A3:Myth #5-More work for the teacher. At the beginning of our process it seems(ed) like more work, but it is just a new routine & a new way to track what we are already doing. Students can self/peer assess during formative assessments. #MSUM644@TomSchimmer#assessment#edchat
@DLjhorne@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer I agree that with SBG we will be able to pinpoint those skills. I feel it will be easier for me as well to let parents know what specifically to work on with their child at home.
@Williamlaura161@eliluna1213 I have to get better at not grading everything. I used to think that was the only way I would know if my students understood or not. Now with more engaging activities and more informal/formative assessments it is freeing up some of my time.
@DLjhorne@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer We are starting SBG this year with math. I am concerned how are parents are going to understand and how much the district is going to push out and how much teachers are going to explain to parents.
@LightEduFires@TomSchimmer I am unsure what is going to be easy to move away from. The hardest will be not looking at/grading everything & finding a tracking system that works for me and not taking student work ethic/habits into account on the grades. #MSUM644#SBG@TomSchimmer
