It was a pleasure having @Dr_A_Wooldridge visit @umichioe to share her research on engineering sociotechnical systems for better team performance and outcomes in healthcare!
Thank you @HFES_UMICH for hosting.
The idea of finding cost savings with air traffic control staffing is insane to begin with. Redundancy is safety, and the cost hit is irrelevant on the margin.
But it's absolutely batshit to mass fire FAA workers *18 days* after the deadliest commercial plane crash since 2009.
NIH just made a drastic change to indirect cost rates, reducing the rate to 15%, a significant cut from the 60%+ some institutions charge. This will have a devastating effect on the nationโs medical research infrastructure. @ResearchAmerica@AAMC@YaleMed https://t.co/GQidBBR6C8
The ICRL lab is getting ready for #ASPIRE24 ! Having a practice presentation session before we head out to Phoenix, Arizona in a week. And the #amazingmentoraward goes to @Jessie_YangXi for spending her Friday afternoon with us ๐๐ @HFES
It was such a pleasure working with the engineering SROP students this summer! I received such a kind note from one of the students that serves as a reminder to myself that representation in higher education matters so much.โค๏ธ #phdchat
Over the summer, I've been deeply involved in supporting students in the Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) at UM! I've helped students prepare for grad school in groups and 1:1, and co-led a workshop on R programming to provide support to students wanting to learn more.
๐จ Registration for #SSE24 is now OPEN๐จ
THRILLED to share that our keynote speaker will be @umichioe 's very own James P. Bagian, MD PE - NASA astronaut ๐จโ๐, physician ๐จโโ๏ธ, engineer ๐ญ, and pioneer in safety in healthcare ๐ฅ
Please share & register here:

A bittersweet farewell dinner for our now *former* post-doc, Dr. Qiaoning Zhang. She will be joining Arizona State University @ASUEngineering as an Assistant Professor in Human Systems Engineering! Weโre so proud of you and excited for all you will accomplish! โจ๐
Research pipeline programs like UROP and McNair sparked my love for research, and it's fulfilling to support RAF students. RAF is an effort by Rackham's PACE team and addresses inequities in research access for students from Minority-Serving Institutions. https://t.co/Ope1Md3g4y
Excited to help coordinate activities for our Rackham Aspiring Fellows (RAF) this year! Our summer visit was a success, and we look forward to seeing our students thrive in their research projects over the next several months. ๐
So excited to share that Catherine was the SURE 2024 People's Choice Winner for her poster, "Analysis of the Effects of Automated Aid on Human-Machine Trust in a Collaborative Setting"๐ ! Congratulations, amazing work!!๐ @umichioe
IOE undergraduate student, Catherine Kautz, presented her summer research projects with @UMICRLย at the SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering) Showcase, with the support of @Jessie_YangXi , Hyesun Chung , and @JinYong_Kim__! Way to go, Catherine! @umichioe
@JenZamudio_ recently presented a poster at Latinx Research Week on leveraging recurrence quantification analysis to understand communication dynamics in robotic surgery!
The pilot of Dali 4 phoned to have the bridge closed 30s after the ship lost power
Extraordinary. He saved lives
This is the surgeon, physician, anaesthetist moment: immediate action to prevent the worst from happening when disaster strikes
good to know @SantaJOno is meeting with this guy & the like instead of his own students. Iโm not under any illusion of who the university administration really serves, but seeing this so blatantly is horrific.
Although tickets sold out in less than 15 minutes, we have good news for folks at home and abroad: the lecture will be recorded and posted on the GISC & DISC youtube page: https://t.co/sOv0krCf29
the @UMich Disruptive Activity Policy draft bans ALL forms of protests. Sit ins, chanting outside buildings, etc. Students can't make noise or block lines of sight (hold signs). UM's living up to its rep of using dei/pro-protest rhetoric but in ACTION just crushing dissent
We had the pleasure of having both Dr. Shanqing Yin (SQ) and Dr. Yoel Donchin give a guest lecture at @umichioe today. Phenomenal talks about considerations for enhancing human factors engineering in healthcare.
Snapped a pic for their reunion with our very own @Jessie_YangXi !
