ON THIS DATE IN 2005: This statement was issued by NWS meteorologist Robert Ricks (from the Slidell office) at mid-morning on August 28, 2005. At the time, Katrina was a category five hurricane in the Gulf. It would make landfall the next day at category three strength at Waveland Mississippi.
Some thought this “doomsday” statement was a hoax. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.
#NEWDEVELOPMENT: Today marks a massive win in the fight for public information. After almost two years, @Live5News has won a legal battle to receive the jail calls of a suspected Colleton County mass murderer.
I-85 Kangaroo Update From ALEA A two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, involving a kangaroo. The crash occurred in the southbound lane of Interstate 85 near the 46 mile marker in Macon County.
Eventually both the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the 46 mile marker were closed while Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division along with the animal’s owner conducted a recovery of the kangaroo.
The animal has now been recovered, and the roadway is back open. The kangaroo was not injured in the crash.

This is just outside Greenville, Alabama. I can only remember there being enough snow to cover the grass one other time— back in 1993. That was 4 inches then— and when I stuck my measuring tape in the grass, there was 4 inches on the ground again.
The Atlanta @Braves and Gray Media have agreed on a multi-year partnership starting in 2025 for Gray to simulcast 15 regular season games alongside FanDuel Sports Network, the Braves’ rightsholder partner.
Gray will carry the Braves in 24 markets (pictured below) across six states of the Braves’ home television territory – one of the largest in professional sports – reaching more than 15 million households.
The 15 regular season games will be spread across the season, and selected games will be announced at a later date. Gray will also exclusively produce and air 10 spring training games.
“Gray Media is thrilled to partner with the Atlanta Braves to bring baseball back to local broadcast television across the Southeast,” Gray Chairman and CEO Hilton Howell said. “We are proud to give Braves fans a new way to watch their favorite players and one of the best franchises in baseball history.”
