Karen Rundlet did an outstanding job for people, journalism and communities @knightfdn. Congrats on the new role as CEO @INN. Nonprofit news members can count on a kind, generous, fearless leader committed to doing good -- and getting it right. And always making it look easy.❤️
In a terrific interview with @dicktofel, veteran funder @MollydeAguiar, a pioneer in local media funding, makes a powerful case for how @pressforward can catalyze -- and support -- local funders to rebuild and reimagine local news. Thank you, Molly!
Congratulations @ibarguen on this well-deserved honor and thank you for all that you have done @knightfdn for Miami, for the arts, for communities -- and for journalism across the U.S. It was an honor to be there in person, in honor of you.
Alberto Ibargüen, retired President & CEO of the John S. & James L. @knightfdn and former publisher of the @MiamiHerald/ @elnuevoherald, takes the stage to share his invaluable insights. Don't miss this captivating speech! #SandInMyShoes
The key to a new national movement for local news is success on the ground in local communities. In Philadelphia, The Lenfest Institute has been leading the way. @jimfriedlich https://t.co/IHXCIfR0X1

It was so much fun to share the first phase of my new research with @NORCNews@MediaFunders and @lenfestinst on the expanding role of philanthropy and journalism w/so many dear friends at @ONA#ONA23
#MIF consultant @JenniferPreston is sharing the findings of a survey we conducted in partnership with @lenfestinst & @NORCNews about philanthropy’s growing role in American journalism at our #ONA23 funder gathering 🗞️
Where's $$ going? In @NORCNews survey, funders say:
- 74% for topic-specific journalism.
- 71% to amplify local #journalism.
- 50% to support community engagement, investigative stories, and news org sustainability. 5/5. Details here. https://t.co/Beaq7nHxrT
A spotlight on diversity: 60% of funders say in @NORCNEWS survey they support news outlets serving communities of color, and 70% of those say their funding has increased. Yet only half of news organizations that serve people of color report a funding rise. 4/5.
As philanthropy expands, the @NORCNews survey also found the need for more newsrooms to disclose donors and adopt clear conflict-of-interest policies to protect editorial independence and public trust. 3/5
In the @NORCNews survey, 59 percent of funders said they've increased philanthropic giving for journalism in the last five years, and a third said they're new to funding journalism. More than half said they anticipate increasing funding in the coming five years. 2/5
Thrilled to share results @ONA from a new survey on expanding role of philanthropy in journalism that I've been working on since earlier this year w/ a wonderful team @NORCNews at @UChicago, in partnership with @MediaFunders and @LenfestInstitute. 1/5 https://t.co/7YqW7FhO3h
What a beautiful tribute to Dick Ravitch who died over the weekend. He did more for NYC as a civic leader and business leader than any elected official. He also firmly believed in the power of local journalism, inspiring him to be a founder of @THECITYNY. https://t.co/km9jTNHeVw
Save the date 📣 #JFunders23 is Oct. 11-12 at the @fordfoundation Center for Social Justice in New York. Connect with fellow journalism funders who are eager to share best practices and lessons learned.

In 2016, @knightfdn launched @NewsMatch w/ a simple idea: matching gifts + training and resources to help nonprofit news build fundraising skills. Am grateful to @INN members for doing the work. Yes, SUPERSIZE! First, let's do rigorous evals of all ideas to best serve the field.
A simple idea to help save local news: SUPERSIZE NEWSMATCH. It's a fund that matches money raised by nonprofit newsrooms. $4.6 million triggered another $5.5M from philanthropy and $38M from individuals. Imagine if they had $100Mn instead of $4M. https://t.co/VoIUOV1JIG
New research from @GlobalPress & MIF: Among existing U.S. readers of international news, there's a sizable untapped market for higher-quality international journalism.
Great recommendations for funders in this new report: https://t.co/JU6LE9c9a0
