I am a great admirer of Joyce Carol Oates. But ignorant comments need to be called out. The world today especially from high profile influencers need facts not misinformation. Fact: The world will need 50% more protein by 2050. Fact: There is not enough arable land to meet this protein through plants alone. Fact: animals play an essential part of land health and biodiversity. Fact: 2% of the U. S. population feeds the other 98%. Do we really want to further decimate our ability to feed our own population by eliminating animal agriculture? Again land for grazing animals is not the same as arable land for crops. The land cannot simply be swapped. Fact: many farmers including the beef and dairy industries are committed to being net zero in the coming years. Fact: 99% of U.S. farms are family owned. Farmers want to pass on sustainable land to the next generation. They care deeply about responsible stewardship of their land. Fact: research actively continues to see if certain foods added to cows diets can reduce methane emissions. Also cows ruminating stomachs allow them to eat things that would otherwise go to landfill offsetting tons of methane gas emissions. Finally if for personal reasons you feel killing animals for food is bad that is if course a personal choice. But which creatures are more deserving of not being killed? Many insects and small creatures are killed by tllling land grown for plants. Let's solve problems together instead of posting knee jerk uninformed comments. We all need to do better!

@NPRKelly @Ph_Etienne Really seems a bit childish on part of France. Recall your lead diplomatic spokesperson over a financial transaction that didn't go your way? Take high road and put longstanding relations/global welfare first.
