Anyone else clock how odd this statement rollout is?

Latah County, Moscow PD and Idaho State Police put out a joint statement about a potential release of unredacted crime scene photos from an “unknown source.”

Not confirmed circulating.
Not posted.
Not verified as actually out.
Every local outlet ran the same story with the same hedge words:

‘Possible leak’
‘Potential leak’
‘Likely leaked’
‘May be circulating’
‘Preparing to release’

They are not trying to prevent a leak, they are literally promoting one.

A competent publicist/PR manager from my understanding would advise the opposite. You don’t pre-brief the entire world (cause this is a global interest case) that graphic victim photos might exist and might drop, because the second you do that you:

1. Confirm the files are real and in private hands
2. Tell every morbid account exactly what to hunt for
3. Guarantee the search traffic that makes a leak profitable!
4. Re-traumatise the families before anything is even public

If the goal was "please don’t share this," the smart move is quiet containment. You don’t put "unredacted murder photos incoming" on the homepage if you actually want them to stay buried.

While stating families have been alerted, they also claim they are not liable in a civil suit for the leak.. This means the state is obviously protecting itself to avoid a lawsuit from families and essentially setting up the defense to be blamed / accused, especially since they won’t confirm who leaked them or where the leak originated from, even though they obviously would be able to find out.

This is either the worst possible PR decision ever or an intentional distraction designed to divert public conversation to the photos instead cause they know something that goes against their official narrative is incoming while also getting ahead of potential liable claims... idk what could be coming but its got them panicing 👀🤷‍♂️
