'When you lose someone from suicide, you’re on a rollercoaster ride. I'm not off that rollercoaster ride yet. It does get easier over time, but at the start of the loss you think about that person 24/7. What FOSL helps people to do is to teach them to distract from that' M.Slough
These fabulous humans spent the day with @SarahGaer and me to learn how to share their stories of turning pain into purpose. Over the course of our day together they went through @UniteSurvivors ’ “Eye of the Survivor Storytelling Retreat.” #constructionworkingminds
We know that these incredibly emotive scenes in the @ITVX drama #BREATHAKING have resonated with those affected by a bereavement during the pandemic and the health professionals who supported them.
This heartbreaking moment when the doctors and nurses caring for those at end of life had to tell their relatives that they were unable to visit must have been one of the most challenging times of their career.
Because of the disruption to services, so many thousands were left at home to grieve, without knowing there was support available.
During the peak of the pandemic 150,000 of our Good Grief cards were part funded by @DHSCgovuk and sent to every NHS Trust in England and 3000 GP surgeries to ensure bereaved families knew they were not alone and where they could turn for help.
650K die in the UK every year.
Our vision is to standardise early signposting for the bereaved, and ensure every bereaved person in the UK receives the support they need from day one 🧡☂️ @doctor_oxford
