It’s important to know that there is an expropriation Act, it’s been there since the 70s. Expropriations take place regularly for public roads, train tracks, mines, etc, affecting many ordinary South Africans. The purpose of the new version is to update the regime and align it with the Constitution’s guardrails. Stipulated processes seek to prevent bureaucratic excesses that date back to apartheid days having facilitated forced removals.
