We can't talk about water without mentioning women. Looking forward to hearing from the experts as they highlight why centering women is the only way to secure water for all.

Regardless of where we live or how we vote, extreme weather puts us all at risk: and we know, without a shadow of a doubt, that it's getting worse due to climate change.

As we transit to a high-level special session on 18 July, focused on AMCEN’s achievements over the last 40 years. Dialogues are ongoing on key accelerators for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Africa’s Agenda 2063 @UNEP@climate_ke@Environment_Ke
As part of the #AMCEN20 build-up, PACJA convened a high-level civil society dialogue titled:
"East Africa’s Renewable Energy Future: A CSO Policy Harmonisation Dialogue."
This two-day forum brought together national and regional CSOs, energy policy experts, community-based organisations, researchers, and government representatives from across the East African Community (EAC) region.
🔍 The dialogue focused on:
— Aligning national and regional CSO strategies on energy access and equity
— Addressing structural barriers to renewable energy adoption
— Building consensus on a just, inclusive energy transition model in East Africa
— Highlighting community-driven solutions within climate and development frameworks
Through collaborative reflection and peer learning, participants reinforced the central role of civil society in advancing coherent energy policy, climate accountability, and grassroots inclusion across EAC member states.
As PACJA, we remain committed to deepening regional advocacy platforms, elevating local perspectives, and ensuring the East African energy transition is affordable, decolonized, and community-driven.

@Imara_Africa Does this means that a household with two employed spouses will see two separate SHIF deductions from their combined income? This is a significant point of discussion regarding the overall financial burden on families!
🎉 Congratulations to Mr. Yonas Gebru, Vice Chair of the PACJA Board & National Coordinator of @CCCE0000, on his nomination to the Organising Committee of the 2nd Africa Climate Summit taking place in Addis Ababa, 🇪🇹Ethioipia later this year! 🌍👏
We're proud to see inclusive leadership shaping ACS2.

On this Labour Day, we honour the tireless efforts of workers across the world—the drivers of economies, the caretakers of society, the changemakers in every sector. But beyond celebration, today is also a rallying call for fairness, justice, and sustainable transformation.
According to the International Labour Organization @ilo , more than 1.2 billion jobs—nearly 40% of the global workforce—are highly dependent on healthy ecosystems. Climate change threatens not only the environment but also livelihoods, especially for workers in Africa and other climate-vulnerable regions.
In tandem, the African Union’s 2025 Theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”, brings to the fore the urgent need to address historical and systemic inequalities rooted in colonization, enslavement, and global economic injustice. As we look toward climate-resilient futures, it is imperative to also pursue economic, environmental, and racial reparations that restore dignity and power to African peoples and their descendants.
This Labour Day, we renew our commitment to:
➡️Decent work and fair wages
➡️A just transition to a green economy
➡️Social protection for vulnerable workers
#ClimateJustice as a form of #reparativejustice
Let us build forward—where workers' rights, climate action, and reparative justice are cornerstones of a new global order.
The inaugural Global South NGO Platform event is currently taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from April 28–29, 2025. This landmark gathering brings together civil society representatives from nearly 100 countries, marking a pivotal moment for collaboration across the Global South
Importantly, Charles P. Mwangi, the Head of Programs and Research at the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance @PACJA1 is actively participating in this historic event. Recognized for his leadership in advancing climate justice across Africa, Mwangi is co-chairing sessions at the Platform, helping to steer discussions on building resilient partnerships, enhancing South-South cooperation, and championing equitable climate action.
The Global South NGO Platform was conceptualized during COP29 in November 2024, where over 1,000 NGO representatives and public activists from 137 countries endorsed a joint declaration emphasizing the vital role of civil society in promoting climate action. It also introduced the "COP Truce" initiative — a call for pausing conflicts during climate negotiations to create an environment for peace and global cooperation
The Platform seeks to serve as a powerful collaborative network — exchanging best practices, supporting grassroots climate initiatives, facilitating sustainable development, and amplifying regional voices particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
Charles P. Mwangi’s leadership at the event not only elevates PACJA's longstanding advocacy for a just transition and climate finance equity but also ensures that African priorities and perspectives are at the heart of shaping this new global civil society movement.
This event marks the first time in Azerbaijan's NGO history that civil society organizations from regions covering 71% of the world's countries have rallied behind a locally initiated global platform. It represents a significant step forward in fostering inclusive, coordinated, and grassroots-driven responses to the world's most urgent challenges.

At today's session at the Global South NGO Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, Charles delivered his powerful remarks. In them, he highlighted critical issues that resonate deeply with the realities of many countries across the Global South. Let's have a look:
"The journey towards a fair world must begin by acknowledging these historical realities, which I am sure are common across a majority of countries in the Global South. This forum should therefore serve as a strategic platform to examine the Global South debt landscape, the policies governing global financial architecture, the governance of vast natural resources, and the implications of global financial and economic policies on social service delivery, climate action, and economic stability. The platform should also al to introspect on gaps that manifest in the current global order and their implications in the implementation of critical multilateral agreements, notably the Paris Agreement, the Sustainable Development Goals, and its successor framework – the Pact of the Future."
As the discussions deepen, it is clear that forums like this are not just gatherings—they are catalysts. They offer a chance to reshape the narrative, advocate for equitable reform, and push for structures that center the realities of the Global South. Now more than ever, collaboration, solidarity, and courageous advocacy are needed to turn these conversations into lasting change.
