In an effort to place more attention on the work done by his office and reduce confusion among members of the media who struggle to correctly identify him, the Missouri State Auditor announced today he will now be known simply as Fitz. The auditor formerly known as Scott Fitzpatrick said the change is necessary in large part because reporters from all parts of the state have regularly struggled to correctly pronounce his name beyond Fitz, commonly misidentifying him as Scott Fitzgerald.

"I have immense respect for the work the members of the media do to cover our audits and investigations, but it has become abundantly clear that correctly identifying me as Auditor Fitzpatrick is something that gives them fits. The switch to Fitz will allow me to spend less time correcting misprints and more time holding government accountable for every tax dollar," said Fitz.

Here is AFA's letter, signed by our 17 state affiliates, to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Members of the U.S. Senate insisting they go much further in restoring our 2A rights than the House did this morning:

"Today’s win in the House – removing suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA) – is a tremendous win for our Second Amendment rights, taking a chunk out of the 90-year-old law that has been used ever since its passage to harass and spy on gun owners, restrict our rights, and in some cases, even result in the death of American citizens. 

But let’s be clear: it’s just a start.

President Trump’s win last fall was a mandate for action. Not half-measures. Not backroom deals. And certainly not letting the gun rights of 100 million Americans be treated like a bargaining chip.

The suppressor fix barely made it in — jammed into the bill at the eleventh hour by pro-gun fighters in the House.

That’s not leadership. That’s playing catch-up.

Now it’s the Senate’s turn. And we’re calling on you to go bigger — and go bolder — before voting on President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”

Specifically:

➤ Remove SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs from the NFA.

➤ Zero out the ATF’s budget — not one dime for tyrants.

➤ Repeal the entire National Firearms Act, once and for all.

The NFA is the beating heart of federal gun control. And the ATF? A rogue agency with a long track record of abusing gun owners and trampling rights.

If the Left ever gets back power — and they might — they’ll turn both into weapons of war against us. This is our chance to burn the whole thing down legislatively, before they do it literally.

Don’t squander this moment.

Repeal the NFA. Abolish the ATF. And put gun owners first.

Two weeks ago, 2A activist @LibertyMatt asked Florida Senator Rick Scott where he stands on a national "Red Flag" law. Scott says he supports a national law as long as there is "due process," as long as there are "standards." Every 2A organization in DC except the NRA has OPPOSED this position for many years. The NRA notoriously supported Marco Rubio's "Red Flag" bill as well. AFA OPPOSES ALL "Red Flag" laws.

As Governor of Florida, Rick Scott signed into law a state "Red Flag" law and legislation that raised the minimum age to buy rifles from 18 to 21 and created a government waiting period on the sale of the weapons.

Now, Rick Scott is running for Senate Majority Leader to replace Mitch McConnell. His opponents in the race, John Cornyn and John Thune, are both estaablishment insiders who can't be counted on to be friends of the 2A.

But would Rick Scott be a friend of the 2A as Majority Leader? Does he still support a national "Red Flag" law? Does he support waiting periods on our 2A rights? Does he support raising the age to buy long guns to 21? Does he support abolishing the ATF? Does he support repealing the NFA? Does he support overturning FIX NICS and Joe Biden's 2022 gun control package? These are questions (and many more) that he must answer based on his history of supporting gun control as Governor of Florida.
