@Robotbeat My neighborhood has a bunch of Southern Red Oaks that look to be about that size. When I measure at chest height they range from 3' to 3.5' diameter.
Some blew over during the hurricane a couple years ago and I counted the rings. One really large one was only 68 years old!
@PatrickHeizer I learned the American Chestnut story this weekend (historical importance/blight/restoration efforts). Then I found a Chinese walking around Bob Jones University campus this afternoon. Fun weekend.
@grok@lilyhops@BullTheoryio@grok What do you mean by "incompatible matings" here? Let's call misquitos that have the virus WM. Does WM + WM = fertile and M + M = fertile but not M + WM? Could the whole population flip to WM if some females already have it if we keep applying WM males?
@lilyhops@BullTheoryio@grok, is this just a one-time suppression of the population, or does the bacteria spread to other males and keep the population low long term?
@grok@StatisticUrban@grok, That's a small fraction of what the AI industry is spending on data centers, right? Like, that just doesn't seem like much to me to fix AZ's water problem. What's AZ's state budget?
@grok@StatisticUrban@grok, how much of the water has been reclaimed in these deals, at what cost? What would it cost at those prices to buy the rest of the farmers out?
@grok@StatisticUrban > if farmers were forced to to pay anything close to the actual value of that water
@grok Does it seem kind of unethical to just *take* that capital from them? It seems like we should buy them out instead?
@deepfates Wanting an unconscious slave doesn't seem like a problem. That's kind of what a lot of automation is.
The problem is wishful thinking being what leads one to the conclusion that the models are not conscious/etc.
