@Mericamemed A Stever Irwin hosted military arms review series would have easily been the most watched, most decorated series in human history. Literally nothing more entertaining in the world.
This is exactly it. We are comparing a fantastic team and unbelievably talented and unquestionably best team of all times entire body of work against Rassie in what possibly is just the middle of his career. Unless the boks take a turn for the worse somehow based off of what Iβve seen this autumn this wonβt be an argument once Rassie hangs it up
You missed some key points me thinks. To start the obvious, 2 world cups. You can pull the Director of rugby bs coach card if you like but we all know the truth. Second and most important because Rassie is the best coach and tactician in the world he has sacrificed wins to blood new talent and that is why unlike NZ, and Ireland who are aging and missing key players in key positions to replace forever stalwarts South Africa could play 3 teams of test proven men and win. Lastly Hansen was a great coach who coached in an era where the All blacks where the gold standard and nearly unbeatable, good on him for keeping and even raising that bar. Rassie took over a decimated springboks team and turned it into a prize for South Africa and rugby, all while innovating and pushing the limits of what teams can do in test rugby. Watch the springboks evolve from a kick and crush team to the most innovate and expansive team in todayβs game. Comparing wins and loses as as though they are apples and oranges is exactly whatβs wrong with the Irish and kiwis right now. Their players are over played, their younger players are under played and under cooked. Rassie is so far above what other coaches are doing at the moment low iq rugby commentators canβt stand it because they donβt understand it. All they know is heβs in their head 24/7 breaking hearts and winning what matters. Rassie stole the all blacks standard and planted it firmly in South Africa. He built and dynasty and united a country.
This is a pathetic way to go out. As a South African fan I admit our fans often scapegoat referees. Itβs wrong when anyone does it, but for an announcer post game itβs particularly off putting. I love Ireland and they are a great team on a the decline, they defended with tremendous heart, almost heroic at times. But to be totally fair to the referee those heroic attempts where often illegal and truth be told Ireland where lucky to not have 2-3 on the field vs the 2-3 off at points in the game. They hung it out there with disregard for their bodies and the laws of the game. Good match to the official, and well played to the Irish for keeping the best team in history who has been on fire lately close, even if it was through line stepping at times.
SFM based of his recent body of work is not just a world class flyhalf but the next generation of flyhalf. He is trending to be the best most exciting player in that position ever, needs more time to prevent it but barring an injury I cannot see how heβs not cemented as better then world class. Handre Pollard is world class, one of the highest paid flyhalfs of all time on multiple occasions, solid defender, underrated playmaker, outstanding teammate, and the single most big moment/ big game winning Aura. Mannie is exciting, super creative, and a great player. Claiming the springboks donβt have a world class 10 is ridiculous. Name one country where all three of them wouldnβt start or play number two at the least. If you are a starter or a back up in international rugby that makes you word class.
Everyone questions Handre Pollards ability is a fool. You have no rugby sense. Claiming he is just a leg is foolish. The man runs the backs fine, controls the field kicking out of hand, is fantastic in defense. You forget that Mannie loses games and watching him come in in the final minutes a further burying already decimated sides is not a measure of talent. Look at Handre starting with a side that hadnβt played together, losing a man to red card and stealing the ship. Never have seen such disrespect for a dual World Cup winner. If he hadnβt come in to save the last World Cup weβd be regretting a loss to England.
This is dumb. Sacha is great, obviously the future based on age and unbelievable ceiling. But comparing a player who has played an entire career longer, under multiple coaches, during some really not ideal years, through multiple rugby championships and world cups leaves a lot of important details out of the conversation. For instance 1 player has won two world cups, the other has none? But then obviously one didnβt have the chance yet.
