Gatehouse purchased my hometown paper in November 2016 and since has chopped the newsroom by two-thirds, cut the sports staff from 4 to 1 and got rid of the Monday paper. Now, they've cut the most decorated writer in the newspaper's history.

I was laid off this week after 22+ years as a staff photographer at the Herald-Times in Bloomington, Ind. They announced Monday we were sold to GateHouse, and by Wednesday I no longer had a job. I'll be hitting the streets looking for freelance work. I do both video and photos.

Some things I kept in my trunk while working for the local newspaper: combat first aid kit with Quick Clot, bicycle helmet, gas mask and extra NATO filters, plastic spoons, canned food, bottled water, toothbrush and toothpaste, change of clothes. -- I usually worked alone.

@stuartpalley @NPPA It was tedious when I entered a few days ago, and the part about adding entries to a cart is odd. It's like they Macgyvered software from some other purpose. However, once I figured out the interface, and had everything in place, it was easy.
