Our Montana roots stir with excitement because John Messick will be in Missoula soon as a Montana Book Festival author and presenter. If you’re in the area, track him down! Catch him on stage Sept. 7th... and either way, read his book COMPASS LINES: Journeys Toward Home
Join us this Friday in McCarthy for a fall issue kickoff party. Come hang with Rose McAdoo and Erin McKinstry, Mark Vail, @BookishJulia, and co-publisher @JeremyPataky for a celebratory campfire reception. Aug. 18 at 5:30 PM at Jeremy's cabin. Email us for directions.
Speaking of astrophysics & stale beer, @Salon published a COMPASS LINES excerpt from our new title by John Messick. Check out the adaptation of the longer essay about polar research at the South Pole—a good book preview, and a break from geopolitics.
Ahhhh the joys of publishing from a remote cabin in Alaska. East coast person taking my printer payment for over the phone at 10 in the morning signs off with "Have a great evening!" Which come to think of it might have even felt premature even if I was on EST.
Pretty sure I saw more migrating snow buntings on the McCarthy to Anchorage drive than people altogether in town, here, since. Love when I get to see them mob through. I mostly think of them as predominantly white, but they camouflage pretty well perched in poplar.
I mean if you're going to break up during breakup, it's allowed that a volcano in Russia explodes and grinds things ahalt for emphasis but also perspective.

Grateful to see (online; no hard copy here in McCarthy!) a positive review of COMPASS LINES in today's @adndotcom written by former Alaska State Writer Laureate Nancy Lord, author of Fishcamp and Rock, Water, Wild, and many more. https://t.co/kxG98Lov0T
