You're the best guy to comment on this. As a player wouldn’t you agree that there is a bit of the human element in deciding your future?

Meaning that if the team really wanted you to stay they wouldn't release bs comments like “metrics say he's a bad fielder / 1st basemen don't get paid…” That is disrespectful. Difficult agent doing his job or not I think most people would say screw their current employer and look elsewhere.

He shouldn't have taken a discount in time or dollars to stay but to the fans the Mets did not do the right thing to keep him. Cohen should have given him a hug and kiss saying let’s get this done and make you a Met for life. Make him feel loved by the team the way the fans and City already loved him.

I guess we’ll find out in 12-15 years what cap he’ll wear on his HOF plaque.

@ToddyWoddy1330 Keith Hernandez had 17 big league seasons with "only" 3 post-season appearances - his fault too??? Silly to single those 3 out. In 2026 would the Mets be a better team with Alonso? By any objective measure the answer is a resounding Marv Albert type YES!

Objectively based only what's reported they made Pete "sing for his supper" all the time. They kept releasing things like, "He's a bad fielder... metrics say this or that ... 1st basemen don't get paid big bucks...We'll get Vlad Jr when he's a free agent..." all ridiculous. They continue to pay guys who don't produce half as much but penny-pinch on a fan favorite? As far as we know Alonso left because he couldn't get the terms. But the other side might be that he was a cancer in clubhouse and the Mets don't want to trash him. All we know as fans is that the product changed and we liked the old one better.
