@eoine_oc@HallisseyC@mara_yamauchi There's a compelling argument based on physiological differences between the sexes that underpins claims of unfairness at parkrun.
Judgementally stereotyping males identifying as female,
based on isolated extreme examples, detracts from it imo, but I'm a man commenting on it.
@JennyAscendant Yes, and no chance of it being made to look any more like competitive sport before 2030 if ever!
Categories and rankings more likely to go altogether if legal advisors deem them unlawful or the board decide they're out with those charitable objects.
I've read your take on that.
@Joanne20793532@Grope_of_Big@youlum@sharrond62 The many women and girls I see running and volunteering at parkrun don't have to be there. They go in spite of the gender ID policy, and they aren't excluded from getting the mental and physical health benefits that don't just apply to male participants.

@Joanne20793532@Grope_of_Big@youlum@sharrond62 They're just the UK figures though, parkrun's missed opportunity having seen it spread to 23 countries in all around the globe.
I wonder if those who's mental and physical health has improved taking part think it's toxic and such a shame.

@kenjude@sharrond62@jamesdavis6939@parkrunUK It's a registered charity and free to enter, so not turning up won't directly reduce income, which is derived from charitable donations, sponsorships, milestone & other merchandise sales, and public funding received via Sports England.
@HallisseyC@leo_leo_X You may not remember the Whacky Races cartoon that was screening during my youth, but if parkrun is any kind of race, it's closest to that, complete with a cheating man, ironically named Dick Dastardly, and his sniggering hound Mutley.
Parkrun's chaotic enough as it is Claire!
@HallisseyC@leo_leo_X True. Wouldn't waiting and watching others set off and disappear into the distance test the patience of a tot? 😉. I'd be setting off ten mins before you.
Handicapped relay team racing is great fun as all start at the same time, so positional changes aplenty excite spectators.
@leo_leo_X@HallisseyC Impractical for parkrun to administer given sheer numbers, but levels the field to give everyone a chance of finishing ahead of faster dinners. I like the challenge of the chase and catch, but in theory everyone should finish at the same time, the finish funnel then unmanageable.
If you finished a 5K fun run, post it.
Post the photo.
Post the medal.
Post the sweaty selfie.
Post the “I survived” caption.
People act like 5K is nothing.
But for a lot of beginners, the hardest part was waking up early, getting dressed, driving to the start line, standing there nervous, and still going.
That counts.
Be proud of it
@mara_yamauchi In the UK this weekend there were 853 parkruns plus 466 junior parkruns, 228,000 parkrunners plus 43,000 junior parkrunners, and 32,000 fab, friendly volunteers in total. Well done everyone, see you next week! #loveparkrun 🧡
@JeremyLAtkins1@sharrond62@parkrunUK I agree that physiological differences between the sexes make ranking by gender inappropriate, but 'given enough time' to come to pass is a lot when you consider that 28 out of 2,300 female course records are reportedly held by males, and parkrun's been going more than 20 years!
@Pond11892Girl@mara_yamauchi@parkrun There is no parkrun registration table as it's done online. You get a unique bar code to take with you in advance, which you present at the end if you want your name, time, and finish position to be officially included in the published results.
@youlum@sharrond62 Have they?
Not sure where you do your parkruns, but it's more popular than ever with those who do it as a fun and healthy activity, as reflected in the well documented slower average times recorded these days.
The online toxicity is just that.... online.
@HallisseyC Those numbers are miniscule in terms of statistical significance with more than a million first finishes now and approx. 2,300 course records, numbers that bear testimony to parkrun's success as is.
I'm not saying they justify ranking by gender though.

@HallisseyC@trailtreaderxx Half century for Amy Jones at the top of the order, and DWH carried her bat. NSB came in ahead of Alice Capsey to find some form and was on fire, almost reaching fifty off half as many balls. Sri Lanka ideal first opponents, and had a Malinga the slinger style bowler 🙄
