A former boss has made close to $100M on Wall Street over the last several yrs

Reading about him made me want to share a story about him and what it means to absolutely dedicated to your work/craft

When I was an banker yrs ago, jet-lagged at 4:30am, I wandered into the gym w nothing better to do

It was empty, except for 1 guy already drenched in sweat, hauling weights around like a Navy SEAL

It was the boss

This man worked 80-100+ hour weeks, replied to emails 24/7, and would do push-ups mid-conference call, just to multi-task and save time

At the time, I thought he was absolutely insane

But I didn’t understand what real dedication looked like until I worked under his leadership - he truly lived and breathed his craft

No excuses. No shortcuts

Despite his crazy hours, what I found amazing was that he still had time and energy to prioritize his mind, body and well being - he was built like an MMA fighter

A few yrs ago, he was promoted as Global Head of one of the largest divisions at the bank, in his early 40s

He's one of the most senior execs & widely considered as being a potential successor to the CEO of one of the largest banks in the world

What I learned from working under him is that:

If you think you’re working hard… someone out there is out there working way harder

Excuses are the tools of the weak

Suffering is a gift, not a curse

Success is earned, never given
