People with disabilities face numerous hurdles in life, but their dedication to contributing effectively to social development is unwavering.
On #IDPwD, we recognize the strength and determination of people with disabilities who are making a difference in their communities.
Today is International Day of People Living with Disabilities #IDPwD.
We work to empower individuals with disabilities to build a brighter future.
Shar Mwe Hal, from Myanmar, shares his story👇
I had the honor of speaking at the #hkjc Philanthropy for Better Cities Forum earlier this month on a panel focused on using sport to break down societal barriers. Thanks to the HKJC, fellow panelists @KarisTeetan and @JohnShielsMU and moderator @TrishaLeahy, as well as @ICRC.
One of the best pieces of wheelchair basketball journalism I’ve read in a long time. Gripping storytelling, great explanation of the game, and a fantastic illustration of the power of this sport to change - and save- lives. @ReidForgrave

An amazing collection of memories and testimonials from players, coaches and officials at the @ICRC_nd international wheelchair basketball tournament last month. Perfect for #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisability! https://t.co/MEfQa5rs1E
It’s the #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisability and I just wrapped up a wonderful week of coaching wheelchair basketball for the first time in Rwanda. It was a fantastic return to in-person coaching after almost 3 years! Big thanks to my @ICRC_rw colleagues for arranging it!
Our @icrc virtual #wheelchairbasketball training program has helped players and teams continue their development despite lockdowns the last couple years. It helped teams from Gaza and Cambodia win the men’s and women’s divisions of our intl tournament! 👏 https://t.co/qzpc6kfreM
The @ICRC international tournament in India earlier this month was a fantastic chance for men’s and women’s teams from eight countries to come together for great competition and friendship. @ICRC_nd caught stories of what it took for them all to get there https://t.co/3Ot7bBDhCa
Amazing finish to the tournament for Afghanistan today, finally putting all the pieces together to play the kind of game they’re capable of. Well done to all the players and coaches! 👏👏👏🇦🇫🧑🏽🦽🏀
Afghanistan 🇦🇫 put on a commanding team performance, with 5️⃣ players hitting double figures, against United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 to ensure they claimed the ninth place at the #2022AOZChamps. 🎉👏

Congratulations Afghanistan on a big win versus UAE at the @IWBF Asia/Oceania championships today! Came back from 10 down in the first half to win 65-50. After a tough 2-point loss against the Philippines to open the tournament yesterday, this is an important momentum builder. 🇦🇫
Afghanistan’s wheelchair basketball team supported by @ICRC_af is in #Thailand to participate in the 2022 Asia Oceania Championship.
Watch Shukrullah Zerak’s, the team’s manager interview for information regarding the tournament and the team preparations.

Over the last 2 days, we’ve registered hundreds of prisoners of war leaving the Azovstal plant in #Mariupol.
Registering POWs is an essential part of our work.
It’s critical to ensure they’re accounted for & treated humanely and with dignity.

On the International Day of People with Disabilities, I want to thank the Adecco Group Foundation for its invaluable partnership over the last 4+ years in helping the ICRC build and broaden its disability inclusion focus. #inclusion

In @ICRC’s physical rehabilitation centres here in #Afghanistan I’ve witnessed enormous strength and determination.
In the first half of this year alone we assisted 80,000 people.
We help people walk again.
Just as important, we help them re-integrate into society with dignity.
We are committed to supporting the people of #Afghanistan.
The humanitarian needs are huge from weeks of heavy fighting.
Thousands were injured, while hospitals were damaged or destroyed.
We will not reduce our presence. We have worked here for 30 years. We will not stop now.
The impact of inclusive sports can’t be underestimated. Thanks to some amazing organisations, that impact goes far beyond fitness and entertainment.
So how does a new sport start, develop and create social change?

Congratulations to @EthiopianWheel1 and @ICRCEthiopia for partnering to hold a national #wcbb tournament at the end of March. First they became official members of @_IWBF, now they’re just the second ICRC-supported country to safely hold a national championship during COVID!
