What cool news! Congrats to Svante, and to the teams throughout the years, who took us from molecules to genomes, and opened a window into the past. Amazing!
BREAKING NEWS:
The 2022 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Svante Pääbo “for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution.”
Jesse Dabney, a leader on our bioinformatics team – and quite possibly the best scuba diver in the company – is our #KorroKrew spotlight for February!
@neuralengine This is just as myopic and unnecessary as people who have said things like there's nothing left to discover in physics. You may not take anything from philosophy now, but I doubt you could disentangle the coevolution of the fields.
We're hiring at @KorroBio!
3 positions in the data science/bioinf group. We're looking broadly for bioinf/compbio, cheminf, and general data science experience to work in oligo design, RNA editing and target biology. Check out the jobs here: https://t.co/LUYSzJtjRf
3. based on in vitro decay rates, it was estimated that DNA could survive on the order of 1e4 years.
Well done to all involved in setting the new record!
Passing the 1e6 year old DNA barrier marks a good time to revisit the foundational Lindahl 1993 paper "Instability and decay of the primary structure of DNA" :

@AnthonyC1Nash For bulk, this will get you up and running quickly: https://t.co/Pa1bvZpS2z. Or if you're looking for single cell, this is a great one: https://t.co/RwdqfqgB8m
A bit delayed, but I've recently started a new compbio position with @KorroBio, working to develop ADAR-based RNA editing therapies. Looking forward to the new scientific focus, and the non-academic setting!
@austenapigo@tylergbyers I disagree with your original post on all 3 points, and think you might be missing the irony in this one accusing others of being savior-y.
@riveramichael@haspelmath @MPI_SHH I'm sure that was sarcasm, but to give some deeper insight, Haspelmath used to question whether there was any scientific proof of evolution, and demanded that books on intelligent design be kept in the library.
@AnthonyC1Nash I've had varying experiences with this in academia. Was part of a team with a clear lab goal where many projects were connected to each other. And also have had very independent projects. Just started a new position in industry, and very interested in comparing the dynamics!
For the ancient DNA crowd: the modded extraction is based on the Dabney buffer https://t.co/ucgMWQy8Md with silica beads as in Rohland, Glocke https://t.co/VgDiJpNzo6. Maria Greco @TheCrick tested it for RNA with
@CharlesSwanton based on her work with Isabelle Glocke in our lab.
An artistic perspective on machine learning. My friend Alex Estorick explores how artists use ML algorithms and the discourse around the (de)generative process. https://t.co/e4d8A75X3M
