Overall, the biggest gain from this placement was being able to build up my communication skills. Having effective communication is very important because at the end of the day, patients/consumers just want someone to sit down and talk to them.
@MHR5000818 Had the chance to experience mental health in a community based setting and I found it interesting because it was very different compared to being on the ward. I liked how we could visit clients at their home because there was more one-to-one interaction.
I think interacting with a NESB consumer who speaks your language is really important to their recovery journey because you may be the only one who can understand their thoughts and feelings. So if you find a consumer who speaks your language, don't be shy to talk to them!

I found that men can also suffer from postnatal depression. Because they are portrayed as masculine by the society, they tend to not express themselves. Men are also human. They shouldn't be ashamed of expressing their emotions.
