@DrEricDing Wow...and yet my criminally convicted abuser and abuser of my children remains in the US on a visa and working at a university. Speechless.
Innovation is a critical part of finding solutions to address unmet needs in the spinal cord injury (SCI) community.
However, even the most disruptive therapies can fail to make an impact when reimbursement is uncertain and the process is lengthy. That’s why we’re advocating for access to breakthrough therapies for the SCI community.
🎗️💚 As part of SCI Awareness Month, we would like to highlight the importance of equity, access, and advocacy for people with SCI.
ONWARD recently sent a letter urging the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) to consider some changes to their proposed Transitional Coverage for Emerging Technologies (TCET) pathway, which is a new, proposed CMS reimbursement pathway that could provide new products that have received Breakthrough Device Designation with a faster and more certain process for obtaining reimbursement.
The current proposal focuses mostly on therapies for diseases that affect large populations of older Americans such as stroke. Our proposed changes would help make it more likely that breakthrough therapies for people with SCI would be reimbursed as quickly as possible.
We believe that new therapies targeting the SCI community should have a similar opportunity to access new therapies. In our letter, we propose the following recommendations:
➡️ Consider severity of unmet need as well as overall disease burden. This is a health care equity issue that disproportionately burdens younger Medicare beneficiaries with disabilities. The SCI community has varied and deep unmet needs. There are limited current solutions for these health challenges. The significant benefits this underserved and other communities could realize from breakthrough therapies should be a factor in the selection of recipient TCET technologies.
➡️ Consider younger Medicare beneficiaries. The average age at injury of a person with SCI is 43 years**. The current focus on larger patient populations likely excludes younger Medicare beneficiaries living with disability from benefiting from TCET.
The SCI community faces complex obstacles. Removing these barriers requires us to address the challenges end-to-end. We’re dedicated to finding solutions and making sure they are available to those who need them the most, as quickly as possible.

In 1975, women of Iceland went on strike for equal rights. 90% of women walked off their jobs & homes, shutting down the entire country. The men could barely cope. Five years later, Iceland elected first female President. Now Iceland has the highest gender equality in the world.
Today’s decision triggers an extremist Kentucky law that creates a total ban in Kentucky that will eliminate all options for victims of rape or incest.

Safe abortion care is essential to protect the health of women & girls everywhere.
Removing access to #abortion care will put more women & girls at risk of illegal abortions and the consequent safety issues that would bring https://t.co/tbsMFGQAn4
If you’re against abortion, don’t get one.
If you’re against contraception, don’t take any.
If you’re against same-sex relationships, don’t have one.
If you’re against same-sex marriage, don’t marry someone of same gender.
Do not impose your beliefs & religion on all Americans.
Today is @UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science. In 2022 it’s time to shift the focus from recruitment (which is not the main issue) to retention (which is an ongoing problem). This is the current situation in Australia👇🏻, lack of funding of women the biggest cause.
