🚨 Rochdale and York City have released the following joint statement:
“This Saturday’s game brings an end to one of the most thrilling, exciting and unpredictable title races in football history. Both ourselves and Rochdale have the chance to write our names in National League history.
The National League is no longer a non-league competition. It is effectively a League 3, with fully professional clubs operating at a level equal to or higher than many of those in League 2.
We both understand how important this game is to both clubs and supporters. We both pledge now that whatever happens tomorrow, we will both continue to fight for 3UP.
Both clubs sit on over 100 points. One of us will have to fight once more in the National League Play-Offs. However, we both strongly believe that this shouldn’t have to be the case.
We call on the National League, Football Regulator, EFL and Premier League to come together immediately and resolve this issue, so that we do not have to highlight this injustice year after year.
For both sets of supporters attending the Crown Oil Arena this weekend, we say thank you for being with us all season. The passion you’ve shown for both clubs has been felt across the world. This game will be seen far and wide. We want to showcase this league for all its potential. Keep your support in the stands, not on the pitch, and let’s all protect the game we love.
Thank you!
Rochdale AFC & York City FC”
Two aircraft. One runway. 583 lives lost.
Today marks the anniversary of the Tenerife air disaster, still the deadliest accident in aviation history.
It wasn’t a single mistake.
It was a chain.
Fog. Pressure. Assumptions.
Two highly professional crews, both believing they understood the situation… and a breakdown in communication that left no margin for recovery.
That’s the uncomfortable truth about aviation, and about life more broadly. Catastrophe rarely arrives in one moment. It builds, quietly, step by step, until there’s no space left to correct it.
While researching JUMBO, I had the privilege of speaking with Dorothy, a flight attendant on the Pan Am aircraft that day.
She survived.
And what stayed with me wasn’t just the sequence of events, it was the human side. The confusion. The disbelief. The seconds where everything changed. And the resilience required to carry that experience forward.
We often talk about Tenerife in terms of procedures and lessons learned, CRM, communication, decision-making under pressure. And those lessons reshaped aviation forever.
But behind all of that are people.
Lives interrupted.
Stories that didn’t get to finish.
It remains one of the most important reminders in aviation:
Clarity matters.
Humility matters.
And good judgement is everything.
If you want to understand not just the history of the 747, but the human stories that shaped modern aviation, my book JUMBO explores moments like this in depth.
Available now at all good bookstores.

🥵 It’s hard to believe a husky would be abandoned on the streets of Thailand.
🐶 She was also pregnant. I sat with her as she had her babies. We re-homed them all.
❄️ Today I got a very special video through from Bowie in her new home in Germany.
Priceless ❤️

Once again in sports tech for the 2nd time in a month, it’s not the actual security bug that gets you in trouble. But rather, not properly triaging inbound security issues. When security professionals give up trying to help, and go public, that’s when things actually hit the fan.
Was quite a moment when the Glastonbury crowd sang On Standby back at us …. Still on a high after this!
Watch the full performance now on BBC iPlayer.

Thoughts are with the family and friends of all those involved in the dreadful @airindia accident #AI171
This is the first major accident involving the @Boeing 787 Dreamliner and I am sure the investigators will be doing their best to find out exactly what happened as quickly as possible.
Please remember that flying is still the safest form of transport so if you are about to get on a 787 for your flight today try not to be worried.
A note to all those who will now be speculating about the reasons for this accident, including those who should know better(!), please don’t! Let the @NTSB and relevant local investigators get on with doing their job as they are the best placed and most qualified people to do so. Speculation doesn’t help anyone.
An awful day for the families involved. 😢
I’m conflicted. I like Twitter/X and it has served F1, Sky, me, and people around me, very well for a good while. But @elonmusk is such a daily globally interfering dick I feel the need to go somewhere else 🤔
