Great year for our high yielding, low water use aerobic rice. Managed to pull off 15.3 t/ha in our commercial trials. Actually, out yielded the traditional DPW ponded rice (14.5 t/ha) with a ~3ML/ha water saving.
This was all done on 4th year rice country. Rice back to back to back to back. Its been interesting to see improvements each year with aerobic rice in our commercial scale trails with @soupercocky on this block. Aerobic rice grown 3 consecutive years has yielded 2023 - 11.4 t/ha, 2024 - 13.3 t/ha, 2025 - 15.3 t/ha. Traditional ponded rice 2023 - 11.9 t/ha, 2024 - 13.2, 2025 - 14.5 t/ha. Some improvements seasonal driven and a lot of learning going on to get those aerobic yields humming! This season we used 'beds in bays' which had some big positives.
Thanks to #FutureDroughtFund @DAFFgov for funding the initial work on aerobic rice and giving opportunities for innovative practices to combat drought. Its something that's really needed in our irrigation regions.
Lastly, big thanks to the Morshead family, whole Amberley Pastoral team, @JimmyMann29 , and @CeRRF_Griffith team for making it all happen.

@Stephen75552005@GribbleRC Only had 2 flushes as far as I can recall. Beds were pulled up for cotton but swapped back to rice after the wet October. Went Sherpa over Viand to minimise any chance of lodging.
@jlaycock55@BrianDunn1287@frogfarmer1 @NSWDPI_AgWater @RiceExtension@AgriFuturesAU Considering rainfall is <48hrs away would a urease inhibitor be of benefit? Wouldnโt you be looking for a product to keep N in the ammonium form for longer as that is what rice will use once ponded. The challenge in these situations is having enough dry soil for the N to wash in.
@agrobaz@soupercocky I reckon with the amount of white stuff he throws about heโll be hard to beat. That Gly might slow up a few of the late emerging grasses so I may have to thank him yet.
@tanne1122@Charliewooders I say that all the time when greeting people and so do many country people, itโs very common. This signifies more that the people living in cities are loosing touch with the country
@Jeremy_Morton_ Unfortunately the industry provided data (Datafarming) does not have the ability to increase the number of classes for a field as other imagery programs do.
@Jeremy_Morton_ The PCT data seems to have a lot of classes (more than 10) which will show more variability. We tend to increase the number of classes with imagery to draw out the variability in a field. Often 5 classes will not show much especially with bank lines and roads involved.
@soupercocky@leigh_vial@RiceExtension@GrowerService Agreed, noticing a large variation with timing of head emergence, flowering etc on individual plants. I wonder how long these took to get through microspore. The V071 at Chrisโ was Pi 20/12 and still had some heads in the boot last Friday
