From 1966 to 2025 we dropped sterile flies over South America that ate screwworm and thus prevented them from spreading, but the le epic efficient cracked coders at DOGE thought this was a silly waste of the ~0 dollars it cost us.
NEWS: Screwworm has been detected in Texas, USDA confirmed - marking a serious threat to US cattle and other animals
Larvae of the parasite were found in the umbilical cord of a 3 week old calf
Screwworm was eradicated from the US in 1966
A case of NWS may have been detected in South Texas. The sample is now at USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames, lowa for confirmatory testing. We will provide updates the moment results are available.
We have already activated personnel on the ground and are working with local partners.
What you can expect from us is transparency, candor, and most important — action.

Yep. 60 Minutes may have had to prepare for future changes, the way people on the coast have to prepare for rising water or evacuation. But when you’re that profitable, you do that in parallel with regular operations. This is how we know her assignment was to destroy 60 Minutes.
@RossBarkan@ZaidJilani Her not being able to get Tony into China for the Trump/xi summit is a microcosm of her incompetence. No other president of the news division has gotten her lead anchor humiliated more than she has and he’s only been on the job 5 months.
I forgot how much of high I was on watching Luke Skywalker fuck up the death troopers at the end of season 2 of the Mandalorian. It really felt like Star Wars was back in that moment. It’s a shame they never made any more episodes or a movie with those characters afterwards.
@EWErickson@varadmehta Are you guys gonna start watching more cbs news now that Bari’s in charge cuz all of her moves so far have been massive failures. So either watch or shut up.
But she hasn’t trusted or given mutual respect to anyone in the building? Why should she expect to receive it back when she hasn’t earned it. She had a chance to get ppl on her side and she’s blown it time and time again by showing she doesn’t know what she’s doing.
NEW: Bari Weiss just addressed the termination of Scott Pelley on the network's morning call just now.
Weiss: "I know I speak for myself, and I hope I speak for everyone here when I say that I'm only interested in working in a newsroom that is built on trust and mutual respect. We cannot do our work without it. That foundation was broken on Monday, and despite our attempts to engage with Scott Pelley and to find a way back, unfortunately we weren't able to do so, and so we had to part ways.
We did not want that to happen, but that's the path that he chose. That unfortunate outcome does not discount from the amazing contributions and work that Scott Pelley has done for CBS and for 60 Minutes over the course of his career."
She then listed some of his stories from the past season and called them "unforgettable stories."
@dilanesper You’re just wrong. In the 80’s news has better ratings than the nfl and 60 minute was still the most prestigious news show then! Their reputation was built way before the 80’s.
@dilanesper Why do you assume that has nothing to do with it having a better reputation than dateline cuz like I’ve said in multiple other tweets, even on weeks without an nfl lead in it’s usually the most watched tv show that’s not sports for the week.
@dilanesper I’m just pushing back on ppl saying the only reason ppl watch 60 is cuz the nfl is on before that. It’s absolutely helps with the ratings but the show got big way before NFL became this massive there’s plenty of weeks that it doesn’t have an NFL lead in that it’s highly watched.
Kinda crazy that even Bosh agrees with me that this Knicks team reminds me a little of the 2011 Mavs. Brunson just seems like he’s on a mission from god like Dirk was during that run. It’s an even better comparison cuz Wemby is now the best in the world.
@dilanesper Having a good lead in has been an important thing on TV forever but that still doesn’t change the fact that CBS doesn’t have 4 pm games every Sunday and the ratings are still really good!
