1/10 🧵 As promised, I’m launching a new series auditing Kenyan tech products through the lens of product design, UX, and design systems.
First up: Aluta (https://t.co/wPa5FGgLge) by @mbiti_mwondi & @remasidney, a live-streaming and event platform.
Here you go👇
Let’s tell ourselves the truth.
United were 2-0 up after 10 minutes at Old Trafford. Shea Lacey on his first start. Mason Mount two minutes later.
Then they lost 3-2.
First time in 50 years United have led by two at home and still lost. First time since 1984 they have led at half-time at Old Trafford and gone out. Booed off. Out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle again.
That is on Michael Carrick.
The start was fine. The rest of the night was a manager watching a game slip and never grabbing it back.
Kostoulas scored just before half-time after sloppy defending and a poor night from Karl Darlow on his debut. That was the clue. Brighton were already the side growing into the match. United were already dropping off.
Carrick did not change the picture.
Second half, same softness. Gross levelled on 65 minutes because nobody closed him down. Four minutes later Heaven and Mazraoui got lost in each other’s positions, Kostoulas cut it back, De Cuyper scored the winner.
The bench came on after the damage.
Mbeumo, Mainoo and Zirkzee at 66. Fernandes at 73. Cunha at 80.
By then the game had a new shape and United were chasing it. You could not see what each change was meant to fix. No midfield reset when they were getting cut through. No defensive security when the back line was leaking. Just names arriving into a side that had already stopped competing.
The players had no drive. Fine. That is also the manager’s job from the touchline. Drive them. Slow the game. Change the distances. Tell someone to step out on Gross. Tell the full-backs to stay in their lanes.
He didn’t.
So what?
This was not City and VAR. This was not 10 men. This was a rotated Brighton side at Old Trafford, two goals up, and a collapse that had been coming from the moment the first goal went in the other way.
Then what?
Four league points from four. Derby lost. Wonderkid asking to leave. Now a historic home collapse in the cup.
Carrick got them into the Champions League last season. That credit is real.
Tonight he did not control the game, did not read it, and did not use his bench to change it.
That is the truth.
