💣🚨Ian Wright Sends Comforting Words to Viktor Gyokeres says he knows what it’s like to be in that kind of situation.

🗣️I see all this noise around Viktor again after Ipswich. People writing him off after a bad game again, like the man didn’t just score 21 goals and help us win the league last season.

🗣️I’ve been in that dressing room. I’ve felt that exact same heat when the goals dry up and the minutes dry up and everyone suddenly becomes an expert. I told him last summer: you’ve arrived now. The hard part of getting here is done. Now it’s on you to demand the ball, to make yourself a problem every single time you’re on the pitch.

🗣️He’s not Kai. He’s not going to drop and link it the same way. That’s fine. We bought him to run in behind, to occupy centre-backs, to finish when the chance comes. If the service isn’t there or the game state doesn’t suit him, he still has to show he wants it more than the next man. That’s the bit I keep saying.

🗣️Don’t get it twisted I’m not happy if he’s standing still or losing simple balls. That’s not good enough at this club. But writing him off after a couple of quiet games when we’ve got a title to defend is lazy.

The same people calling him a square peg were quiet when he was nicking those goals against the sides we used to drop points to.

🗣️Viktor, if you’re watching this: the doubt is going to come. I felt it. Embrace it, then go and shut them up. Minutes or no minutes, when you get on that pitch make sure they remember you’re here.

Arsenal didn't break Gyokeres last night. They've been breaking him for months, and everyone's pretending they just noticed.

Let's be honest about what's actually happening here.

Our wingers are ball-hogging. Full stop. Cutting in for their own glory shots instead of squaring it, instead of that diagonal or horizontal pass that puts Gyokeres through on goal. Over and over. Same selfish pattern, same wasted runs. Eventually a striker stops making the run nobody's going to reward.

Gyokeres was signed to thrive on quick transitions, counters, direct combination play, and 1V1. Instead we shoved him into a possession system that builds in pockets and clusters and told him to "adapt." You didn't sign a system player and reinvent him into one. You bought a goal scoring weapon and put it in a museum case. What???

His only good moments? Eze creating for him. Martinelli linking behind him. Both happened when Odegaard was out. The second the captain came back, the system reset to pre-Gyokeres Arsenal, and his form died with it.

And then, insult to injury, they benched him for Havertz. Fine, Havertz is in form. But you don't fix a striker's confidence crisis by burying him further.

Everyone's ready to roast Gyokeres for Ipswich. Low touches, no energy, "doesn't fit," blah blah. But that performance wasn't the fire. It was the smoke from a fire that's been burning for months while everyone looked away.

Arteta talks a big game about player mental health. Here's his test. This is exactly the situation he claims he's built for. Rally the dressing room around a striker in crisis or watch the club's biggest summer investment rot on the bench.

And here's the question nobody wants to ask:

what happens when Havertz gets injured and Gyokeres still hasn't found his form?

Who scores the goals then?

Don't @ me with the Merino false 9 nonsense either. That's not a plan, that's a symptom of the same problem.

No matter how brilliant the experiment is, it is always a makeshift situation that lacks grit.

Yes our tactics won a league but not thru the use of a striker. Victor had to grind out 21 goals last season in system that did not favour him, only to come back to the same old same old.

I will keep reiterating this until everyone gets it.

We do not need a new striker. It was not an issue last season and I can assure you, won’t be the reason if we don’t win the league this season

Kai Havertz is good enough.

Viktor Gyökeres is good enough.

Get behind them and stop constantly trying to abuse one for every mistake.

The players are impacted way more than you think by what you post. Support them.

@Rory_Talks_Ball My issues is that you can see he wants to get it out wide, all the time - the days of playing it through the lines and releasing forwards seems to be gone. Its get it out wide and cross in.. but it’s a game plan that would seem to be of found out and isn’t working
