Every day there’s some empty eyed influencer posting “🚨 WOW the GOP has improved its midterm odds of staying in power by disenfranchising voters and politicizing the Supreme Court!” and it’s followed on the feed by news that inflation tops 4%. There’s no actual governance, no desire to make anything better or improve the lives of Americans. Republicans are in fact perfectly content with making your life miserable, making prices untenable for the average American, so long as they’re in power and want to keep it that way by any means necessary. They’ll take your vote and use it to push slush funds for the president and his friends while defunding literacy programs and selling off public lands and gutting programs designed to fight domestic crises (see the screwworm fiasco). Genuinely just an evil, stupid party that needs to be defeated into oblivion
@giles_home@wjprescott It's nowhere near that amount. The state pension, if you were to purchase the exact same benefits from an insurer, would be about £250k. It used to be much higher, but annuities are a lot cheaper now due to gilt yields rises.
MAGA authoritarianism is pretending the president is “joking” when he makes death threats, but comedians are somehow “shaping public policy” when they make jokes.
@thetimes You have a columnist flagrantly lying about their credentials and regulatory authorisation, with a website full of fraudulent statements. How do I contact your legal/editing department to highlight this to them?
@TimboJ@PensionsMonkey completely false. Had the NI paid in over the years been invested for a pension (even though it all goes into the income tax pool), then the annual income would be considerably less than the amount paid now.
"Joe Rogan seems confused. Theo Von is not sure the Donald Trump now in the White House is the same person he voted for in 2024. And Andrew Schulz has done a full 180-degree reversal on Trump’s trustworthiness."
"Listening to the manosphere’s top podcasters puzzle aloud at what they wrought is an abject lesson in the perils of political media in the influencer era. The problem isn’t that politically ignorant pontificators have inserted themselves into politics; unlike doctors, lawyers, even electricians, punditry requires zero qualifications or professional licenses. Cocksure but poorly informed loudmouths have always been with us."
"No, the problem is that shrewd politicians like Trump know how to promote themselves and their agendas by exploiting ostensibly non-political media spaces dominated by political novices."

Gary Lineker: Genocide is bad.
The right: Stick to football.
Jim Ratcliffe: The UK is being colonised, and I don't pay personal income tax here.
The right: Yaay, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Man of the people. True patriot.
Rashford: Feed the kids.
The right: Boo. Stick to football.
@EricBalchunas@RealEJAntoni It's not a story because it would be an abject lie. The US economy added fewer private sector jobs in the 12 months to Jan 26 than it did to Jan 25, and using spot m/m figures for a single month, a year apart, with such noisy data is outright dishonest charlatanism.
@AdviserCounsel i.e. 12 months ago tweets = "Epstein was evil and everyone involved should be prosecuted" to now, tweets = "Epstein was evil, but he framed these people, and we have more important things to worry about, no one cares about Epstein"
@JonLemire He has some special bond with fraudsters, con artists, and grifters, sort of a mutual respect and affinity. Honesty bores him, character repulses him, truth offends him, and descency he abhors completely.
@CasinoCapital@Uzocapital Depends on what went on. There will be a long period of time when the funds are not accessible, and will be costs to pay, but some could lose significant funds.
@CasinoCapital@Uzocapital Not surprising. Several of the other SIPPS that allowed IB are now in administration. Type of SIPP willing to allow options trading are also likely to allow or have allowed things they shouldn't have.....
JPow: I was indicted.
JP: You weren't indicted. We just had some questions. You blew us off. We impaneled a grand jury for a criminal matter to subpoena you to get answers. You blew off the subpoena.
JPow: You didn't have predicate for the subpoena so I didn't answer the questions or appear.
JP: We didn't indict you. You said that.
JPow: What the heck are you doing?
JP: Just trying to make you answer for the budget overruns with the construction.
JPow: I already did that to Congress.
JP: Yea, I know. I need to do it again. Because the big guy wants you gone and lower rates.
JPow: Yea, I'm definitely not going anywhere now. You are a loon.
