One of the best mentors I’ve ever had. Sad for ESPN, but happy to see Charlie move into a role he was born for. He will do nothing but great things at Paramount.
Pope Leo's Easter message:
"Let those who have weapons lay them down! Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace! Not a peace imposed by force, but through dialogue! Not with the desire to dominate others, but to encounter them!"
Unsurprisingly, an incredible last column. Didn’t expect to get so choked up @scottostler but how beautifully written and how much you’ll be missed. It’s been a privilege to share press boxes and media workrooms with you. Cheers to an awesome career and a more awesome retirement!
From chucking papers as a kid to slinging zingers as a pro, Scott Ostler has seen it all in his sports journalism career.
In his inimitable style, he looks at where it all began and where it took him. https://t.co/1fvUBZb4CY
Letz go even bigger and better,,,

A young, abandoned monkey named Punch went viral this month after he was filmed clinging to the stuffed toy that he had been given as a "surrogate mother."
Now, Punch is gradually building up his social skills. He's been spotted climbing on another monkey's back, and according to the Ichikawa Zoo and local media he has been embraced by an older monkey, a sign that he is on his way to social acceptance.
@KTVU@KTVU fix this headline immediately. So irresponsible!
“Though the victim's spouse is a volunteer with the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team, the sheriff's department clarified that the spouse was not involved in the search following this week's avalanche.”
kind of funny that an olympian said they are here to represent "compassion, respect, love for others" and some people automatically know that's a statement against them
Just one week after tearing her ACL, Lindsey Vonn has completed her Olympic training run in Cortina.
The women's downhill competition takes place this Sunday.
From @springsteen :
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
Stay free, Bruce Springsteen
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
A sports league can only do so much in the face of tragedy like this. But the NBA was right to decide we don't need basketball tonight in Minneapolis in the wake of another state-sponsored killing.
Because if not now, when?
Column for @sfstandard: https://t.co/RfmpIbVupT
There is so much demanding our outrage right now. So many injustices competing for our attention. And that isn’t an accident.
The goal is to exhaust us. To make it all blur together. To make us look away.
So as we push forward, keep this image in your mind:
A five-year-old child detained by ICE in Minnesota.
Not a statistic.
Not a policy debate.
A kid.
This is what our choices look like when they land on the smallest shoulders.
And if we let ourselves stop paying attention—and stop standing up—this becomes normal.
