The thinner tree was cut years ago and the big one has been holding and feeding it since then. They "wake up" together in the spring and "go to sleep" together in the autumn.

In this particular piece, the chairs and place settings represent people, the printed images on the border of the table represent memories. However, I acknowledge that a community is rarely whole; someone is missing, and they have left memories embellished on their plate.

During my time at grad school, my work has centered around community. I soon discovered the universality of the dinner table, and its connection to community.
As I contemplated community, I began to recognize that with community there must be loss - whether you move on from the comfort of your community, or someone in your community leaves.
