Forget New York, London and Tokyo - Sydney has been handed the crown of best city on the entire planet to live in, following a global survey by brand evaluation consultancy @BrandFinance.

Sydney also ranked second for retirement due to its health system, medical facilities and diverse range of recreational activities, and also came in third for weather.

However, much to the chagrin of sunny Sydneysiders, mopey Melbourne didn't rate too badly either, coming in at fourth for liveability and 16th overall.

The survey collected responses from 15,000 people from 20 countries across all continents in April.

But ... is this really a surprise to anyone?
