This article highlights everything @POAUnion have been stating for the last 14 years. Things are no better now, in fact things are getting worse. When will Governments start to listen to the frontline ? More importantly when will they act ? https://t.co/fOgFrsfRPP
Just visited Manchester prison today. A morning period that was extremely challenging to say the least for POA members. I witnessed numerous serious incidents that were dealt with brilliantly by staff. But they need help @ShabanaMahmood with clear investment. Steve Gillan Gen Sec

People doing media commentary on issues on criminal justice could do us the courtesy of being informed, and using the right terminology. Prison "Guards" are officers, who often hate that guard label. They have the power of constable while on duty under the 1952 Prisons Act.
“One governor told me that a new officer explained, as she handed in her notice, that her application form had been filled in by her mother” (HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, 2022; p.7). Prison Officer work is highly skilled. The current recruitment process is absurd! @POAnatchair
