BA, MA Theology (Exeter). PhD Theology Candidate (Twickenham): ‘Sacrifice and The Reform of The Reform in the liturgical thought of Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’.
@DuncanHegan1 Versus Populum not mandated by Vat2 but post-council becomes sacralised hallmark of reformed liturgy. Ad Orientem becomes casualty of old=bad, new=good ‘spirit’ of Vat2 matrix which Dekert speaks of. Local legislation and guidance erroneously follows suit. Hope this helps!
@2D0XPS@exceeding_love Ah! might there be a case for differentiating between comprehension of the Ordinary vs Propers? The words and phrases of the Ordinary of the Mass, in Latin, is still readily understood by a great many people… relative at least to those who could translate Vulgate on the spot.
@exceeding_love That is a good point, just the other day I was talking to a CofS layman who was remarking how surprised he was at the relative ostentation of churches south of the border. Perhaps a sort of ecclesiastical globalisation?
@exceeding_love@tc1415 Why the need to convert *from* Catholicism? Both denominations affirm being part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church?
@GaryWaddington@talkChristianly You hit the nail on the head, Father. Far too often the liturgy is mediocre and performed whereas if it is reverent and lived then it will, and does, draw people in. We see this on both sides of the Tiber.
@ProfFrancesca Thank you very much! I see that the Deputy Vice Chancellor is a Theology Grad and has done work for the CofE synodically and for the Diocese of Exeter… I’ve fired off a LinkedIn message in the hope that he will come to the aid of our venerable subject!
@FrenchAnglican I think that saying the SSPX see themselves as ‘sole guarantor’ is an oversimplification. Otherwise why would they pray for the Pope in the Canon? Their ‘Mandate statement’ saw them as acting extraordinarily outside of Church authority rather than being the authority itself.
@Adrian_Hilton I’m not saying parish share is without issue, but tbf, your parish wouldn’t be able to achieve anything without this system. The Diocese underwrites all the costs of mission and ministry in your parish which will invariably be more than £24k pa…
@FrenchAnglican I think you’re trying to create an issue that doesn’t exist? Why do they need to stop? Diversity in clerical dress is abundant across traditions & time. Plus, contrary to what Pope Francis said, just because it isn’t simple/standard doesn’t mean it’s not humble/Christocentric…
