@robhawkes Confirmation that its offhire.
Ventus has capacity for 3 turbines per trip vs 6 on Voltaire.
However 2nd WIV joining project next year with capacity of 5 turbines to finish all 3 phases early 2028 🙊
I find it amazing that the UK, an island off mainland europe, managed to build up car manufacturing to the point where it rivalled Germany in 2016.
That was pretty good going for the UK.
Then the Brexit vote hit and killed it.
@robhawkes Ive been in those towers. It must be structural steel related as a lot of the main components are in the Haliade X nacelle which is why its so much bigger than others.
Being 10x more involved with your kid than your parents ever were with you, while somehow feeling 100x more guilty about falling short, is the official millennial parenting experience.
The Govt saying we must drill more fossil fuels so we can use the tax revenues to fund the green transition is about as logical as a doctor telling you to smoke 2 packs a day to raise the money for your lung transplant
You don’t put out a fire by pouring on more fuel 🔥#Jackdaw
Well, I suppose this is the new normal for the foreseeable…
Yesterday we spent over £32 million on gas to replace wind energy that we couldn't get to the right place.
One of the best short documentaries I've seen explaining why the energy transition is no longer just about generation, it's about the grid and, increasingly, storage. #SWB#Bettrification#EnergyTransition
Key takeaways:
• Britain doesn't have a wind problem, it has a transmission problem. Scotland produces more wind power than the grid can carry south.
• Consumers pay twice: wind farms are paid to switch off while gas plants are paid to switch on elsewhere.
• Batteries are scaling rapidly but there still isn't enough storage to absorb surplus renewable energy during major grid constraints.
• The solution is clear: more transmission, more batteries, more flexible demand like EV charging and AI data centres, and smarter market design.
The lesson extends far beyond Britain. Curtailment isn't a failure of renewables, it's evidence they're growing faster than the rest of the system. The answer isn't less wind and solar, it's accelerating the infrastructure around them.
Its #HeatPumpWeek
I got my ASHP in early 2025 and estimate it costs me £16/month @OctopusEnergy#heatpumplove
