News from our research group at Stockholm University. We study evolution of fungi: in the lab, in the field and by the computer. Tweets are from lab members!
Yesterday, our team ran the Blodomloppet in Stockholm, to help draw attention to the importance of blood donation. We all ran 5 or 10 kilometers, we all made it to the finish, and got to recharge with a picnic! #blodomloppet
Looking for a 2-year postdoc in Scandinavia? Join Martin Lascoux's group @PlantEcoEvo_UU to study polyploid genomics in re-synthesised Capsella. Application due in last than 1 month! https://t.co/cQyPNkA1kx
Interested in evolutionary genomics/population genomics and plant genetics? Want to do your PhD in beautiful Stockholm? We have two 4-year PhD student positions available in my group at Stockholm University. More info, see https://t.co/PBKPku4RGU Please RT #ecrchat#PhD 1/4
One more piece of work from Lore’s PhD-thesis is published! Here, she presents chromosome-level assemblies of the remaining species of the Podospora species complex - and make an attempt to resolve their phylogenetic relationships. Go, Podo, go! https://t.co/X79q6YVGAC
Yes, we work on fungi… but, one or two of those prokaryotes also gets in! Here is a study on Microcoleus, together with our friends from Czech @dvorikus published in Nature communications. Check it out and read about barriers to gene flow in a microbe! https://t.co/tMZqOU2xKX
Marieke van der Poel came from Utrecht to is join us for an internship. She got her own lab T-shirt 😊 and will let the (spore-) killers go alive again by picking up the work on meiotic drive in Neurospora!
Thanks for joining us!
After a long silence on here, I am now proud to inform you that I got elected to join the @eseb_org equality committee! I am very excited about working to improve equality, very happy to join, and looking forward to all the good work we will do together.

Really great presentation by @PetterBMadsen today at his halftime seminar. We are all so excited to see these projects move forward! Awesome work Petter!
Five new members of the Academy 🌟

Alert: the first chapter of Ivar’s PhD is out! Here we can learn about how crapaud (a TE in Podospora... i.e., not a frog!) evolves. Great work, @Iv_wster, we look forward to more TE and RIP-stuff from you. https://t.co/1A5w7pxx5D
Trying to avoid sideprojects, but …. now, lab-grown mycelia of the local Morchella importuna is back into the ground, together with quicklime and other good stuff. High risk (of freezing), but high gain (if it works!). Excited to see what comes up next year!!
Our paper on spore formation in Morchella galilaea, is published online in Frontiers in Microbiology. @XiHui_Du shows intriguing data on variability in ascospore size, number and shape and conidia produced directly from ascospores in this species! https://t.co/d7C514uxuL
Just back from Szeged, and a visit to the @laszlognagy group. We had a blast, hearing about all the interesting ongoing projects, shared ours and planned collaborative work on inheritance in basidiomycetes. And some great food and drinks, too! Thanks so much for hosting us!
Markus Hiltunen from @JohannessonLab explaining mutation rates in the fairy ring mushroom Marasmius oreades. Perplexingly low mutation rate in this fungus!
Today, we are having our semi-annual meeting with our @UU_University and @SystBio_UU colleagues working on fungi. A day to talk all things fungi, full of presentations of our newest research!
We can now finally share our paper on the whole-genome phylogeny and comparative genomics of the fungal order Sordariales!
Check out the new paper by @NoahHensen et al. here:
