NEW: Boeing has won the U.S. Navy’s F/A-XX competition, beating Northrop Grumman for a contract worth more than $20 billion to develop the Navy’s next-generation carrier fighter.
The aircraft is expected to enter service in the 2030s, replacing the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler.
Bill Gates thinks we are way too casual about what could go wrong with AI.
He says awareness of the risks is “extremely low” outside the industry including among academics, policymakers and politicians and warns it’s “insane” to expect AI companies to regulate themselves.
His biggest concern is that we’ll wait for a devastating cyber or biological attack before putting serious safeguards in place.
Basically, Gates is asking whether we really need millions of people to die before we decide maybe some guardrails were a good idea. That's quite a warning.

Chinese robots perform traditional Arab sword dance
Wielding canes instead of swords – as is often the case – the robots performed the dancing routine without a hitch.
The performance took place at a reception in Chinese embassy in Saudi Arabia, marking the 77th anniversary of the PRC founding.
We aren’t fighting in the Ukraine the “Nazis”. We are fighting the Western hegemony, Sea Power, Atlanticist geopolitics. There is no more Nazis in the world - only Seapower vs Landpower. China pretends still to be Rimland. In vain. It has to choose the camp. Sooner or later.
Vladimir Putin is pumping 17.1 trillion roubles (£154bn) into his war effort – a record sum since the invasion of Ukraine began.

There are several possible explanations for the surprise release on bail of five men arrested near RAF Fairford on Sunday, but perhaps the most obvious answer lies in how enemy states now recruit their operatives.

🇮🇱🇵🇸 Historical suffering cannot become a permanent excuse for what you do next.
Mohammed Hijab thinks one of the most dangerous forces in the Israel-Palestine conflict is grievance becoming identity.
His argument is not that historical suffering is imaginary, but that real suffering can eventually become a justification for inflicting suffering on somebody else.
Jews can point to centuries of persecution. Muslims can point to Iraq, Afghanistan and other wars.
Neither, Hijab argues, gets “a forever pass to harm everybody else.”
He compares it to someone committing murder and then asking the court to excuse it because his ancestors were oppressed.
The history may explain the anger, buit it does not erase responsibility for what happens next.
And Hijab thinks this becomes particularly dangerous when victimhood turns into a permanent worldview.
Every attack becomes justified by the last attack. Every retaliation creates another grievance. Every new grievance becomes justification for the next retaliation.
Eventually nobody is arguing about how to end the cycle.
They are arguing about whose suffering gives them greater permission to continue it.
'Andy Burnham has renounced the Blairite New Labour revolution. His message was a quite explicit appeal to the Labour vision of 1945 in which all progress was achieved by collective action rather than individual aspiration'
Janet Daley argues 'how could his vision of a re-industrialised, re-nationalised country survive in a globalised economy if it were paralysed by the endless power struggles of coalition politics?' ⤵️
