The academic freedom index across the world.
The US is on a steep decline, ranking below 120th of countries in 2025.
In 2015, we were ranked in the top 15.

@LindseyGrahamSC@SenTomCotton@POTUS Sen. Cotton apparently has never owned an outboard motor boat. He thinks one struck by explosives big enough to kill most of the people on board and capsize it is still operational, and therefore the second strike killing the 2 survivors was justified.
@TheFigen_ This is the same message as a quote from Jacob Riis called “The Stonecutter”, and adopted by Coach Greg Popovich as the mantra of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team.
Trump wants energy dominance…but apparently only in the energy technologies of the past.
He also thinks that if we don’t measure, study, or talk about earth’s climate it won’t change.
Lunacy.
Asia rises in climate fight: “If the United States continues to sideline science, it will not only lose its intellectual edge but it will also jeopardize its ability to protect its citizens from the accelerating impacts of climate change.” @MichaelEMann https://t.co/eXdFZP2HDz
@FreeBeacon You are conflating the event which ignites a fire….which is not climate-related….and the increased chance that there will be a lot of dry combustible fuel, which is climate related.
@hausfath And as a practical matter, once populations relocate, wars are fought, and civilization adjusts to a warmer "normal", is there any reason to allow natural "global cooling", which would create the same messes as civilization adjusts to a cooler "normal"?
I don’t agree that “global energy poverty” is the biggest threat to humanity, but it is an issue that fossil fuels certainly can’t fix …while solar, wind, and battery technologies can and are more and more everywhere…except the US. Why are you trying to kill them here?
Climate change is real, and it deserves attention.
But it is far from the greatest threat facing humanity—that distinction belongs to global energy poverty.
If we are trusting the science: climate change is a challenge, not a catastrophe.
@douglewinenergy Solar, wind, and batteries are the energy technologies of the future: easy to deploy rapidly, low cost that’s getting lower. China leads the world in these.
The Trump Plan is to dominate the fossil fuel technologies of the past. He is conceding the energy battle to China.
A bipartisan deal on permitting reform and a measured phaseout of tax credits would lower consumer bills, boost the U.S. economy, and give America a leg up in the AI race. My latest at the Texas Energy & Power Newsletter:

@SecretaryWright Trump wants to dominate 19th century technologies like coal. China is leading in 21st century technologies, which are wind, solar, and batteries. Those are driving the grid growth in the US and the world. Because they are the cheapest and easiest to build. COMMON SENSE
@AlexWil56684695@911Pedi@SecretaryWright Solar power is natural.
We have a limitless supply over our heads
Plus it produces electricity that's cheaper and can be built far faster than a fossil fuel plant
And it gives us cleaner air plus energy independence
Why WOULDN"T we use it?
Jesse Watters says the quiet part out loud: Right Wing Media doesn't need facts, just an opinion, a conspiracy theory, some Russian disinformation, etc that fits their narrative du jour. A subsequent fact-based response over legacy media can't compete. #asymmetrical@johnastoehr
Watters: We are waging a 21st century information warfare campaign against the left…What you're seeing on the right is asymmetrical… Someone says something on social media, Musk retweets it, Rogan podcasts it, Fox broadcasts it.. and by the time it reaches everybody, millions of people have seen it.
@johnastoehr The Democrats lost the election because they lost the information war to the massive right-wing media. RWM convinces too many people to believe an alternative reality. Critical thinking is discouraged. Dems need to find a way to fight that. So far they haven't.
