@KennedyNation The Reality: According to the POWs present and military organizations like NAM-POWs, no such notes were ever passed, and no such retaliation took place. The specific prisoners frequently named in the false stories have explicitly denied the incident ever occurred.
@KennedyNation The Rumor: The story usually claims that when actress Jane Fonda visited North Vietnam in 1972, POWs secretly handed her slips of paper with their personal information, which she then handed directly to North Vietnamese captors, resulting in the prisoners being beaten.
@KennedyNation This is a widely circulated internet myth and chainmail rumor.
Historians, independent fact-checkers like Snopes, and the American ex-POWs involved have thoroughly debunked the claim.
@UallNV There has been some organization of the Polaroids but many have never been seen before. Joe Augustyn wrote a book about it that has quite a few never-before-released pictures. The book is called Ghostwriter. Also, there is a project that Hulu is doing on it.
@26MFHPOD Thanks for mentioning my film. It’s been years and I feel it’s finally getting recognized. Vinegar Syndrome released it on blu-ray and the disc has four other films I’ve made should anyone have any interest. It goes into the 7 1/2 year journey of making the film. Thanks again!
