Having further thoughts about the connection between "disabled bodies as labour sites", "disabled people's HOMES as labour sites", and the tendency of agency carers to assume that can walk right in without introducing themselves or waiting on permission.

Like, it looks like a home/house to the people doing/directing the labour (care) so it's "home based", even if it's not the disabled person's home?

like, it's not "body" because I want to include clothes/mobility aids/aac programs etc.

and it's not "personal space" because for e.g. a backed up aac configuration, or a mobility device even when it's in a different place from me, or "choice between speech and aac"

It’s this balancing act between trying to convince them “I promise I’m not too disabled to work here and I can do the same work as anyone else!” and “I swear I’m actually disabled please give me this minor accommodation here’s my personal medical info and life story” —

A quick note about employment discrimination. They never SAY “you can’t work here because you’re disabled”, they just make the environment increasingly hostile and refuse to accommodate your needs as a disabled person. And you have to self advocate CONSTANTLY while being gaslit —

They won’t discriminate because you're disabled, that would be wrong 😑 they’ll discriminate because they built their competency framework around an able-bodied neurotypical ideal and you don’t fit it, therefore you’re not qualified 🫠 and that’s just “fair” 🫠🫠
