Zohran Mamdani skipped the event due to his stance toward Israel, breaking a decades-long tradition of New York City mayors attending the celebration.

As thousands packed Fifth Avenue waving Israeli flags, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Sen. Chuck Schumer, Attorney General Letitia James, and New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman all took part.

Mamdani's absence quickly became a political flashpoint, with critics accusing Mamdani of turning his back on New York's Jewish community amid record levels of antisemitism.
