Unfortunately, the credibility of what comes out of the WH has been undermined so often that the truth is likely somewhere between the two stories. It would be reasonable to assume that the projection of controlling the funds is intended to paint a better picture than the harsh reality contained in the MOU. If the 30 million barrels of oil that Iran just sent through the SOH to Asia isn’t subject to this mechanism that would be telling.

Iran propaganda contradicts everything President Trump and VP Vance say. As @VP notes, Western media should not rely on the crippled regime’s boasts but the reality of the media landscape is such that the U.S. cannot accept the Janus-faced approach to MOU much longer. From @TimesofIsrael:

The terrorist state is relying on anti-Trump media in the West to amplify every absurd counter-claim for the alternative reality of the smashed up Iranian “leadership.”

If the president wants to get through the election with quiet on the Iranian front, he’s going to have to have his team refuse to engage until “official” Iranian outlets and spokesmen stop with the lies. A defeated regime —if actually defeated— cannot be allowed to control the narrative.

🇨🇳 🇮🇷 China holds $50 billion of Iran's frozen assets. That is 25 times what the US holds! The US can unfreeze assets tomorrow but that doesn't mean China will give Iran the money.

If Iran plays games with the Strait do you think China will give them their money? 😡

Joel, at this stage, the only thing that is clear is that President Trump will say anything to appear strong when the MOU he signed makes it obvious he negotiated from a position of weakness. Everything else is either speculation or wishful thinking. Whatever cover story they dream up will have the lasting power of the blue paint in the reflecting pool. The smoking gun is that we didn’t do everything that was threatened because without the oil flowing through the SOU, we run out of oil and have a recession that Trump will own.
