The standard algorithms certainly have their place in math and what we teach…their efficiency led them to become the standard algorithms…but there is SO much more amazing stuff throughout the math curriculum than *just* the algorithms!
TeachingWorks director @deborah_ball recently sat down for a conversation about doing math—and teaching—with intellectual humility. Listen to the @JSTOR_Daily podcast here: https://t.co/qHW9mxi7ao https://t.co/qHW9mxi7ao.
Fifth grade teachers! I've made @openmiddle Depth of Knowledge matrices to show how a single math problem can replace an entire worksheet in fifth grade. Download it now here: https://t.co/WQehGvUwec #iteachmath

@angeladuckw@TeresaAmabile@educationweek Yes! But frequently overlooked and hiding in plain sight is how teachers need to use creativity themselves in their everyday work as teachers! Nurturing student creativity is only part of the story.
Creativity is important to all professions, but especially teaching. Nurturing student creativity is only half the story. Encouraging teachers to also be creative in their own work is essential for dealing with the myriad complexities of teaching. https://t.co/AomvGHvmUI
The fifth hyperfactorial: 5⁵ × 4⁴ × 3³ × 2² × 1¹ = 86400000 milliseconds is exactly 1 day
1 day has 24 hours: 24=4·3·2
1 hour has 60 minutes: 60=5·4·3
1 minute has 60 seconds: 60=5·4·3
1 second has 1000 milliseconds: 1000=5·5·5·4·2
Great discussion about the value math teachers add IRL that AI still isn’t able to replicate. The art of teaching/learning math is filled with important micromoments that are easily overlooked but extend far beyond modeling proper techniques and accurate mathematical solutions.
