Three of us contacted Cheshire Police to ask whether Archie’s death would be included in the investigation into babies who died at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

We were all told the same thing: his case was outside the timeframe being investigated.

I have since read transcripts showing that the question was put to Dr Stephen Brearey and Dr. Ravi Jayaram who said that Archie’s death was “expected.”

As his grandmother, I struggle to understand that description.

Archie wasn’t recognised as seriously ill until day six. Before then, we were repeatedly reassured that he was doing well. He then deteriorated rapidly, was transferred to a Manchester , diagnosed with Echovirus 11 and tragically died on day 13.

That’s why I continue to ask whether the investigation should have looked more broadly at why babies were dying at the Countess of Chester Hospital, rather than limiting itself to a particular timeframe.

Families deserve answers. Every baby’s death deserved the fullest possible investigation.
