@Telegraph This is misleading as you don't actually mean those who are self employed (ie pay NI Class 2 and hopefully 4) but rather mean those Directors of Limited Companies who pay themselves via Dividends rather than Salary to minimise Income Tax paid and avoid NI altogether.

@MattGubba The variable income argument is hogwash, they could pay themselves a variable salary and / or ad hoc bonuses but choose not to as using Dividends reduces the tax (and NI) paid.
