President Isaias Afwerki Meets and Holds Talks with Egyptian Delegation

President Isaias Afwerki received, at Denden Guest House in the late morning hours today, a senior Egyptian delegation comprising Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty; Minister of Transport Lt. General Engineer Kamel Alwazir; and CEOs of several companies involved in the transport, energy, and mining sectors.

The extensive discussions centered on further enhancing all-round bilateral ties of cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual importance.

President Isaias underlined the significance of consolidating the all-round ties between Eritrea and Egypt to advance the mutual interests of the Eritrean and Egyptian peoples. In this respect, President Isaias expressed Eritrea’s readiness to implement common projects in collaboration with Egyptian economic and trade companies.

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, for his part, stated that the current visit was a manifestation and expression of the brotherly ties of friendship and cooperation that exist between the peoples of Eritrea and Egypt. The principal purpose of the visit, Dr. Badr noted, was to further consolidate economic and trade ties between the two countries in accordance with the guidelines charted out by President Isaias Afwerki and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

On the occasion, the two countries signed an Agreement on Marine Transport “for developing cooperation in the sector with a view to contributing to the development of international shipping on the basis of the principles of freedom of navigation.”
The agreement was signed by Eritrea’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Berhane Tesfaselassie, and Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Lt. General Kamel Alwazir.

Foreign Minister Osman Saleh also met with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and discussed modalities for the implementation of the overall bilateral cooperation agreements reached between the two sides.

Foreign Minister Osman underlined the significance of the visit by the senior Egyptian delegation and the importance of strengthening bilateral ties of cooperation at this crucial time of fluid developments in the Horn of Africa region.

Dr. Badr, for his part, referred to the alignment of views and positions of the two sides on vital regional and international issues and stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of mutually agreed development programs.

Upon arrival at Asmara International Airport, the senior Egyptian delegation was welcomed by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs. #Eritrea

Press Release: Purported Recognition of “Somaliland”

The reported move does not represent a sudden or isolated development; rather, it reflects a long-brewing maneuver with the potential to ignite serious regional—and even global—instability.

Such actions warrant an unequivocal and principled response at the level of the United Nations Security Council and from all responsible member states. In this regard, the People’s Republic of China bears a particular moral responsibility to engage constructively, given the clear parallels with the “Taiwan question,” on which it has consistently and firmly articulated its position.

Respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and established international norms must remain the cornerstone of global order. Any deviation risks setting dangerous precedents with far-reaching consequences.

The Potemkin Party (PP) leadership has now reached peak political frenzy in its attempt to manufacture a non-existent regional crisis under the guise of pursuing an illicit and dangerous claim to “sovereign access to the sea.”

The daily stream of disinformation and provocation has become predictable in its pattern:
i) tired attempts to revise and distort Eritrea’s history — most recently displayed in speeches during the “promotion” ceremony for senior military officers;
ii) open efforts to undermine foundational principles of international law, including the sanctity of colonial borders; and
iii) reckless saber-rattling designed to inflame emotions rather than promote stability.

These actions reveal a leadership intent on engineering external crises to deflect from its severe domestic challenges — economic, political, and security-related.

At a time when the Horn of Africa is already weighed down by conflict, displacement, and deep humanitarian need, the region does not deserve yet another avoidable crisis manufactured for political survival.

Those who genuinely care about the peace, stability, and wellbeing of the peoples of the region must speak clearly and firmly:
irresponsible provocations must be rejected, and the principles of sovereignty, stability, and international law must be upheld.

The obsession/political frenzy of PP (aka Potemkin Party) officials to manufacture a non-existent regional crisis in pursuit of toxic and illicit "sovereign access to the sea" is perhaps at its zenith these days.

The barrage of daily disinformation/provocation whose hallmarks are:
i) stale revision and distortion of Eritrea's history (statements at Ceremony on "Promotion" of the regime's top military brass on Saturday);
ii) willful intent to tamper with cardinal principles of international law, including the sanctity of colonial boundaries; and,
iii) reckless saber-rattling;
belie the misguided priorities of a regime bent on incubating regional crises to deflect attention from its multiple domestic challenges.

The Horn of Africa Region does not need or deserve another bout of unnecessary and avoidable conflict and turmoil; afflicted as it is by a plethora of other debilitating problems. This is the unequivocal message that should be conveyed - in no uncertain terms - by all those who harbour sincere wishes for the welfare of the peoples of the region.
