@RutgersAltRoute Remember this year is as challenging for you as it is your students, give them and yourselves grace, we will get through this together #Education#Teaching
Teachers and parents often question how a student with intellectual disabilities can be taught in a grade-level class with grade-level content. Here are some answers! https://t.co/nPk8L7TvFV #sped#inclusion#teachertwitter#disabilities
@RutgersAltRoute Q5 - Do do all that in, among the other gazillion fa-fillion things plus e-mails and whathaveyou, requires a grand capacity to DEAL. Not everyone has that. Teachers have needs too. Okay, so, now I'm back to saying, hiring more teachers. Co-teaching is the best. Sorry. #AltRtEd
@RutgersAltRoute A3: I'm looking forward to being back 100% in the classroom, because there are too many distractions for these students at home. In school, these students can use balancing stools, sensory strips on their desks, etc. #AltRtEd#Sped
@RutgersAltRoute Q5 I think there needs to be a holistic approach with respect to behavior management of exceptional learners. Constant contact with the CST and administration if fundamental as well as a mindset into minimizing behavior issues #AltRtEd#Sped
@RutgersAltRoute A4 With respect to online, I find EdPuzzle and Desmos to be very helpful with my math students. In terms of in person, small groups and mini whiteboards and algebra tiles helped make lessons more concrete for students #AltRtEd#Sped
@alberti_mr@RutgersAltRoute Agreed, I didn't realize how important routine was until I worked with exceptional learners. They were often frustrated when I did something that was out of the usual structure of the class.
@RutgersAltRoute A3 I feel variety is key and multiple modes of communication is important. Multimedia activities and giving students roles in learning (presenting on smartboard, sharing out group discussion) can empower students to have a personal stake in their success #AltRtEd#Sped
@RutgersAltRoute Q2 I often try to do routine check-ins with my students and encourage them to come to meet me in office hours. I use SEL slides in Desmos to gauge how my students are doing and I use FlipGrid to encourage them to share their input #AltRtEd#Sped
@kbryantgse@RutgersAltRoute Agreed, I am always worried about overloading and overwhelming them. In addition, not giving them enough space to productively struggle.
@RutgersAltRoute A1 #AltRtEd#Sped I have had challenges differentiating the needs of the students in my class and creating scaffolded assignments without some students feeling left out. In addition, there have been some behavioral challenges.
