@rutgers_maria This is not a problem now, because social media allows us to stay connected and creative. We have to find ways to meet up, work, and have fun while we cant be face to face. The problem within this is many people would not know what to do with themselves without it. #RUDCIM_SP20
@KevinWo60987905 Being apart of the loop is a big thing. I check social media to figure out what is happening, any breaking news, the scoop about someone. Even subconsciously, when people show a post, we might respond with “i’ve seen that already” to show they are in the loop. #RUDCIM_SP20
@rojas_raissa As generations pass and technology is more included in society, so is group think. Now it is easy to become apart of a virtual world, but may be a high chance that the group they are involved with, is who they identify with. #RUDCIM_SP20
What are hashtags that are trending during this pandemic and what are these tags saying? Does this tag call people to action or does it show awareness? What is the goal of the creators or was it a group made tag? #RUDCIM_SP20
@julclassaccount I believe that women are more attacked because of the factor, sexism, as well as “generally” being the ones who are more touch with emotions, so the emotions expressed are easier to attack rather than a man who might express less emotion and personal thought. #RUDCIM_SP20
@rojas_raissa Impersonation is dangerous for a person’s image because the person behind the screen has a job to destroy ones image. So a lot of times I have seen this, a person would even look down at themselves even when THEY knew the truth. #RUDCIM_SP20
@olsensean908 What gets to me about trolls is that they are usually always hidden & are only seen through other’s accounts. It can ruin one’s image for the simple fact that no everybody on social media might know you personally. Sometimes only closer circles will even be fooled. #RUDCIM_SP20
These young women were shamed and embarrassed for their acts by being put on a page with a demeaning title. No matter what these women’s stories were, the shamers were the only ones heard. This resulted in backlash & abuse with little punishment. #RUDCIM_SP20
Banet-Weiser & Miltner suggest that ideas circulating are encouraging rape, violent threats, and the removal of respect for a woman’s body. There was a time in high school where young girls would be harassed and exposed for nudity and other acts. (Continued below)

@OliviaRutgers Hey! I do not play this game much, but I do see a common trend when I go to most public spaces. Usually at least one person is involved with Fortnite, to the point that everybody is following dances and terms from the game regardless if they are connected. #RUDCIM_SP20
@rojas_raissa SIMS was one of my favorite virtual reality games and it was addicting, because it seemed so real and made the user seem like they were running their own life, which most of us of were younger so we looked for the control. #RUDCIM_SP20
@rutgers_maria Hey! I originally was going to post about this until I saw it was mentioned. I enjoyed this game as a younger child and I knew many people who were connected. Makes me think that I was probably playing with some of the people in class today. #RUDCIM_SP20
Sanchez mentions Betsy Book 5 common features between game & social virtual world. One feature is a graphical user interface to connect on a similar platform. I use to play Wee World, a virtual reality game. It allowed us to hang together regardless of location. #RUDCIM_SP20
@VINCENT45656352 I would like to see more counterpublics like this, because I can see it growing support & acceptance for people. It can be easier to talk about personal content when it’s behind a screen or with a “no face, no case”. Sites like these can help with self improvement. #RUDCIM_SP20
@BrielleNowicki Pinterest is one of my favorites; because it’s another one of those sites that are personalized from your interests & search. I like to go on & they suggest something that I was on the track to or would like to see while scrolling. One page can lead to similar pages #RUDCIM_SP20
@JeffKandathil I find it interesting & also question the transition. This happens with more sites than we realize when a site is made intentionally for one thing but the users take the concept and switch it up to something that fits them a little better, but the creator benefits. #RUDCIM_SP20
An ex. of a counter-public is Tumblr. Tumblr had a high wave of users a couple years ago. A lot of people I know used it to show their creative, artistic, or different side. It involved people checking out what they could do with their page set up and comparing. #RUDCIM_SP20
@ekendrickxo Maybe social media & technology has shifted us from hiding our flaws and insecurities to sharing them, whether that be laughing or looking for empathy from a crowd similar to them. Now that people are becoming more upfront, they are willing to work on themselves. #RUDCIM_SP20
@catperry1029 Social media and digital relationships have changed the way we think of our relationships, from being meaningful to materialized. Everything has to be a show or a competition to the point that a couple does not get to cherish any moments just to themselves. #RUDCIM_SP20
@VandeneedeMatt Hey! I think the social norms are that people have the option of living a life without having to be face to face with others. So when people get in contact they lack certain qualities, such as how to lead by example, know how to speak to the audience, etc. #RUDCIM_SP20
