@CateMS111 I think this is a good time for self reflection if anything, which could benefit people who choose to war and harass others from behind screens but this pandemic brings out different emotions in everyone. Luckily as a world the majority is trying to come together to heal!
@FionaMcLoughli9 I think we could definitely be seeing more online harassment, especially because people have a lot of pent up anger and frustration surrounding the pandemic and nowhere to aim it #RUDCIM_SP20
@lichen00089 I think the overall struggle of technology is an issue for both students and teachers and makes it difficult for both sides, I had a situation where I was taking a quiz but couldn't access any of the files associated with it #RUDCIM_SP20
@rutgers_maria Hi Maria, I have been using social media more during the pandemic because there has been so much free time for us as students working at home. But it isn't all bad, I get a lot of my workouts from social media now that keep me active #RUDCIM_SP20
We have discussed online worlds and ways people can manipulate these virtual settings. Are there any cases where creating a fake persona could be used for good or to anyones benefit? What kind of situation would this be? #RUDCIM_SP20
@rutgers_maria TikTok is easy to get addicted to also, because it feeds you content that it knows you will like. Because of this I go to sleep so much later than usual due to the endless scrolling #RUDCIM_SP20
@jimmy_enm I feel like I would be more interested in online gaming if I could win money too! That way, the addiction is not just focused on the online gaming but it translate to your actual life if you're making an income from your virtual life #RUDCIM_SP20
An example of an internet addiction is online gaming. This becomes addicting for people because it allows them to feel as if they have a life in an alternate world to be a part of, especially if there are rankings or goals to achieve in this virtual world #RUDCIM_SP20
@anasmartinez21 Hi Ana, in this case I think that we can all relate and this allows us to see that an internet addiction may be all too common. I can recall times this was happened to me in the past week #RUDCIM_SP20
@mj5941@FionaMcLoughli9 It is upsetting and unnecessary when people troll celebrities, I tweeted about this as well and showed a picture of the "women tell all" episode of the bachelor that addressed trolling. It was difficult to see how it affects these real people mentally #RUDCIM_SP20
@elizabethmfish Cyberbullying is a very upsetting reality that is a common form of harassment especially in younger ages or among celebrities. Cyber bullying gives bullies a hidden front so they can act ways they may not present themselves face to face #RUDCIM_SP20
@rojas_raissa Hi Raissa! Impersonation is a scary form of online harassment especially if you notice someone is trying to impersonate you. This reminds me of the show Catfish where impersonation is usually the harassers main threat #RUDCIM_SP20
Trolling is a form of online harassment, almost all of the readings mentioned humiliating commenters or threatening notes online which can be considered trolling. This often happens with celebrities by people who do not know them. #RUDCIM_SP20
@alexandraTech19 Hi Alexandra, I think this is interesting because it deals with a very different type of virtual world, instead it is like the world, virtually! This is definitely an important virtual world and a huge type of technology #RUDCIM_SP20
@rojas_raissa It looks like fun Raissa! My brother was talking about sims today, I think, and was talking about how he spent so much time building his town? It's interesting how there are different types of virtual worlds for different ages and interests #RUDCIM_SP20
@BrielleNowicki So funny that you logged back into your account from so long ago! I tweeted about Webkinz too this week. It's definitely a good example of an innocent virtual world that we can all mostly relate to. #RUDCIM_SP20
Sanchez discusses how his specific virtual game “players ...sustained the social systems outside of game play”(Sanchez 2009), which kind of reminds me of WebKinz from when I was younger. There was the online format then real life stuffed animals kids played with. #RUDCIM_SP20
@rojas_raissa Hi Raissa, great observation, I actually used Pinterest as well, crazy! I completely agree that this is an ideal counter public example. I love to use Pinterest for inspiration with style, cooking, etc! #RUDCIM_SP20
@Michellemiselev Hi Michelle! I didn't even know there was a yoga club what the heck, I wish I could've joined but who knows how long we will be online school at this point. Sounds like a great club #RUDCIM_SP20
@lichen00089 I didn't even think about SoundCloud as a counter public but this is a great example. People create a kind of community through music interests but stay away from identity information #RUDCIM_SP20
